With everything that has happened to weddings as a result of COVID-19, it’s no surprise that midweek weddings are going to be more popular. Why? Well logistics really, with wedding postponements come fewer dates to choose from in subsequent years as demand is higher. If you are worried about having a midweek wedding, please don’t. I am going to explain just why midweek weddings are still just as special as their weekend counterpart and how to navigate all the practicalities. If you want to chat as always, feel free to pop me a DM, I am here to support you.

Trust Your Wedding Suppliers

Always trust your wedding suppliers they know exactly what they are doing and they will have worked on many midweek weddings before. They can help guide you and alleviate any concerns you may have. For example a professional photographer can help you decide on timings for the day, your venue can help you with your final guest numbers and a brilliant planner can be there to support everything wedding related.

Send Save The Dates

Top tip! If you are having a midweek wedding, think about sending your save the dates earlier than usual (our wedding checklist is the ultimate guide to wedding planning timelines FYI). You want to ensure that your guests have as much notice as possible for any potential annual leave they may need to take to attend your wedding. Do keep in mind that if your wedding is during term time, school staff and children may not be able to be at your wedding during the day.

Therefore keeping guests up-to-date and informed as much as possible is key. Also, a wedding website is a great idea for keeping all of that info refreshed and regularly updated as a simple touchpoint for guests.

Forget About Unwanted Opinions

When it comes to weddings, everyone has an opinion. And you know what? You just can’t please everyone, it is impossible. Fact. When making a choice outside of a traditional wedding notion, you may get opinions or comments. But armed with this knowledge, it will ensure you have a polite and thoughtful response at the ready. Your wedding, your rules.

Let’s face it, having been through a pandemic and multiple lockdowns everyone that matters to you most are going to want to be there to support and celebrate with you. Especially if they know you’ve been through the wringer with your wedding postponements. Moreover, those that love you will understand and be there to support you no matter your wedding choices. A midweek wedding is going to be especially understandable to the majority of your guests given the current circumstances.

If there is anyone that can’t make your midweek wedding, technology can save the day. Live streaming has become a popular wedding add-on and will ensure everyone can be involved if they are able to be virtually. Let’s face it, we all know how to use Zoom now!

Manage Expectations

Managing expectations is a good way to avoid the same questions over and over. Therefore you have worries about your midweek wedding plans, then share them on your wedding website or invitations rather than waiting for responses. Think of it as a frequently asked questions page on a website.

Ideas of info to give out as soon as you can:

Date Flexibility

It goes without saying that a midweek wedding will give you more available dates and hopefully wedding suppliers to be able to hire. It could also be that a special date of yours falls midweek that otherwise you may have dismissed, but it will allow you to have a really meaningful date for your day. If you are not regimented with your date it will open doors to more opportunity and allow you to find your wedding dream team.

Cost Saving

It’s often said that midweek weddings can be cheaper. But I would advise caution not to expect this, especially following the COVID-19 pandemic. It could well be that some wedding suppliers and wedding venues give midweek wedding discounts, but don’t just go for discounted wedding suppliers if they don’t make your heart sing.

It also goes without saying never to spend beyond your means and make sure you stick to your wedding budget. If a midweek wedding brings you some savings then of course it’s a bonus!

Travel can be cheaper midweek rather than on the weekend, so heading off on your honeymoon or mini-moon midweek may bring some extra cost savings. It also may mean you have more options and availability last minute, win-win.

Why A Midweek Wedding is Special

Personally, I think it would be fun to have a sneaky couple of days off work to attend a midweek wedding. Besides its lovely to look forward to on the calendar on what would ordinarily be a normal week.

Your guests will be excited to be there and once the wedding is in the swing of things, you won’t be thinking about the date or the day. Furthermore, you will be having the time of your life, marrying your soulmate and having a totally awesome party.

Midweek Wedding Final Thoughts

Finally, with a wedding, there are always pros and cons no matter your final choices. Whether that’s having a midweek wedding, compromising on not booking something or ditching something that doesn’t resonate with you.

Always stay true to you as a couple and you just can’t go wrong.
