Modern Jewel Tone Asian Fusion Wedding Ideas

These decadent and rich Asian fusion wedding ideas today have totally stolen my heart. Dark atmospheric jewel tones and candlelight set against the opulent backdrop of Cutlers’ Hall all worked so beautifully. There were dramatic bridal looks teamed with ethereal gowns, bold large bouquets filled with red and marsala blooms, not to mention a show stopping intricate wedding cake. The more traditional bridal touches like the mehndi and tikka headpiece looked utterly beautiful on the brides.

The styling and tables-capes were also just gorgeous, along with the incredible imagery by Lianne Gray Photography. What a sight to behold.

“We both had a clear vision for this shoot, from the initial mood board right up until the day of the shoot. Every shoot we work on is designed, organised and directed by us – we always try to explore unique themes that are generally overlooked by many bridal publications and reach out to all brides. For this inspirational editorial, we wanted to create an inspirational fusion of modern western and eastern Bridal culture. The main feature would be the explosion of rich colours – teals, pinks, purples, oranges with gold accents – contrasted against the soft white of contemporary, silk and lace bridal gowns that feature so prominently in British bridal editorials.”

“The flowers created for the shoot were everything we had envisioned and more. Amy from Polkadot Florist never does anything by halves. The rich jewel tones of pinks and purples were very fitting for the vibrant, exotic feel that we were going for. As soon as we’d viewed Cutlers’ Hall, we knew it was the only venue for this shoot. With high, heavily decorated ceiling, vintage gold mirrors and teal wallpaper, the flowers contrasted perfectly, embodying the Indian summer colour palette that we’d fallen in love with during planning stages. For the venue, the images really speak for themselves (just wow). Not only was it the perfect backdrop for the concept, the staff of Cutlers’ Hall, particularly Chloe, couldn’t have been more helpful during the day. For any wedding or editorial shoot it is integral to pick the right venue with the right management – and we definitely did.”

“Without meeting face-to-face, it can be difficult to keep the colour palette consistent across the board. When we hand-picked the suppliers for the shoot, we knew that White Rose Cake Design and Lisa Jayne Create would be able to rise to the challenge of working around the Indian summer colour palette we had chosen. Both lovely ladies went above and beyond our expectations. Jo from White Rose Cake Design opted for a purple base for her four-tiered design, embellishing it with matte gold florals and Indian décor that spiralled around the cake. Jo also made the pink/red macaroons with gold, shimmery detailing that were featured in the shoot – such a fab idea for wedding favours or accompaniments to the wedding cakes. Lisa crafted gold laser-cut place settings to incorporate into the table setting and produced a rich and vibrant, laser-cut fold-out invitation, the bold and beautiful design echoing elements of traditional Asian wedding stationery.”

“For us, it was important that the dresses were white and minimalistic, embodying the current British contemporary bridal trend. We opted for a silk bias cut dress designed by Susanna Greening, contrasted by a lace and tulle two-piece by Sassi Holford (kindly loaned to us by The White Room, Sheffield). Audrey wore the silk gown and Rosie modelled the Sassi separates.”

“To mirror the elegance of the fabric, Kirby prepped and styled Audrey’s hair to perfection. With an original twist on the on-trend bridal braid, Kirby created a look that was sleek and sophisticated, adorning her hair with purple orchids to tie in with with the fusion of purples, pinks, oranges, teal and gold in the styling. For Rosie, we wanted to create a look that was more representative of the traditional Indian bride – but with a twist. We went bigger and bolder with hair and the dress, yet still retained the all-important elegance that Audrey’s look possessed. Rosie wore a rose-gold and silver tikka headpiece, with matching earrings. Coupled with the mehndi, the lace and tulle two piece, we felt, was reminiscent of the gorgeous bridal separates that permeate Indian wedding culture.”

“Amanda from Pose Sheffield was a natural choice for the shoot; she was extremely helpful when sourcing jewellery and a mehndi artist for the shoot and we instantly fell in love with some of the elegant, bold Asian bridal looks she had created. Asian bridal make up is typically heavier than the muted, very natural make up that British brides tend to opt for. A nude lip, subtle blush and natural eye make up is substituted for defined eyebrows, heavy eye make up with metallic accents and bold colouring, all characteristic of the Asian bride. The classic red and gold colour palette into the styling however, Amanda decided to use shades to compliment the Indian summer colour palette. Rosie’s make up was darker, blending shimmery golds and deep purples for the eyes, a dark lip and defined brows. Audrey’s was softer, but still featured lush metallic accents – a shimmery coral/pink colour was applied to her lips and eyes, blended with a soft gold.”

“As with most of our shoots, we had two photographers with varying artistic styles and one videographer on board. Lianne’s photography resonates more with old film-style exposures, with soft focus, dreamy colour palettes and natural composition. Ben’s is masterful with unique lighting techniques and flash photography, articulating a crisp, high quality finish that is often well sought after for wedding photography. We were also joined by Laura – one half of Lukas & Laura Films – for the day. We often work closely with Lukas & Laura Films on set of our inspirational editorials as their videography really captures a different dimension of the shoot. They specialise in whimsical and rustic weddings and have a very calming presence that makes it a pleasure to work with them!”

“As a nod to the Asian influence of the shoot a low table with floor cushions was used as an alternative to a traditional top table set up by Anna’s Attic. The table was set up in front of a teal and gold wall which was stunning and perfect for the look. Layers of rugs, sheepskins and cushions in a riot of spicy colours really captured the essence of the shoot. The table itself was laid with a navy pashmina, the main floral element was a stunning large floral centre piece, this was further complemented by an abundance of vintage brass items, which were filled with jewel toned flowers. A pair of vintage brass pheasants again reinforced the Asian theme as did a number of handmade Indian items, including small wooden boxes and egg shaped decorations all in beautiful colours and highlighted with gold. Brass candlesticks of differing heights and cream tapered candles created height and interest as did the delicate hand made paper decoration draped down the centre of the table. Simple white china with a gold trim was the perfect foil for the stunning gold laser cut keepsake place settings by Lisa Jayne Create. Tall brass vases with loose stems were also used within this setting. Due to the relaxed nature of the main table we also chose to display the beautiful cake casually, a simple wooden crate was dressed with a mix of Asian fabrics in a riot of colours, which complemented the fresh flower wreath that had been used at the base of the cake.

One of Cutler’s Hall’s stunning fireplaces was used as another backdrop, the table centrepiece and brass pheasants simply dressed the mantle and sheepskins, throws and cushions were used to dress a sofa.”
