Pretty Summery Yellow Barn Wedding

It’s wonderful to start the day with a bright, pretty and summery celebration and all in a gorgeous yellow colour theme.

Karen and Justin were married on a rainy August day at Cain Manor in Surrey. The barn setting was just perfect for their traditional country nuptials and really created a cosy and magical atmosphere. I especially love the attire worn, with Karen donning a stunning hand made lace gown, the boys wearing tweed and light suits, while the bridesmaids wore short lemon frocks.

Yellow roses and gypsophila worked perfectly together with the floral cake and oodles of fairy lights.

THE PROPOSAL | On Signal Hill, Cape Town, South Africa, under a red sky sunset 13.05.2013 over two Savannahs (cider).

THE VISION | Pretty, summery and yellow. English country traditional.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | Quite challenging at times planning an English wedding while living in South Africa (I’m English and my husband is South African!). We moved to England one month before the wedding – everything came together just in time!

BUDGET | £35,000

THE VENUE | Cain Manor, Churt Rd, Headley Down, Churt GU35 8SR.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Handmade in Cape Town by Elbeth Gillis.

FINDING THE DRESS | I actually chose one in Brighton, England first but then had a panic, changed my mind and got it made locally (to where we were living) in Cape Town. Definitely made the right decision!

GROOM’S ATTIRE | Three piece grey suit. Tweed waistcoat and brown shoes. Buttery yellow skinny tie.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | During the reception we had a Klezmer band – The London Gadjo Gypsies and later on we used Cain Manor’s DJ, who we supplied with a music list.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | The bridesmaids were the Bride’s cousins (Lara, Ruby and Miranda).

THE CAKE | This was organised by the venue. Cake tasting was incredible!

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Matt Penberthy. Matt was friendly and fitted in with the guests perfectly. He experimented with different settings and backdrops for the photographs and we loved the fairytale outcome!

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | Oakwood Events supplied stunning lighting.

THE HONEYMOON | We both went straight back to work and in fact haven’t yet been – we leave for our (much overdue!) honeymoon to Barbados on Saturday!

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | The groom’s speech made everyone laugh and cry, the incessant rain created a cosy, warm feel inside the venue (open fires in August!), shots after midnight with our parents and family and dancing ‘til we dropped!

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Remember that this is about the two of you, things might go wrong on the day and not be absolutely perfect but that is all inconsequential as this is the day you marry your true love. Don’t worry about perfection, try to create a happy and fun day that you both will enjoy!
