Sustainable Wedding Ideas in Beautiful Boho Style

Sustainable weddings are on the increase and I for one could not be happier about this. The impact as humans we have on our planet needs to change and change can start in the smallest of places, such as at weddings. This is why I was so happy to be submitted this seriously gorgeous sustainable wedding ideas editorial in beautiful boho style.

EKR Pictures captured this whole affair superbly, which by the way was coordinated and styled wonderfully by Willow and Rust Weddings. Everything in this shoot was “reclaimed, reused or could be reused afterwards, or recycled or recyclable“, there was no plastic and zero waste, all without compromise on style. Wow! It just shows what can be done with additional thought and planning on how to make your day eco friendly.

This shoot really does have it all; gorgeous dried flowers, sumptuous treats, on trend attire, delicate stationery, an extraordinary table set up and immaculate hair and make up. Enjoy it all guys!

Sustainable Wedding Ideas

Reclaim, Reuse, Recycle sustainable wedding.

This was an eco-friendly shoot with a boho luxe vibe. The idea behind it was that everything used fit into one of the three categories, it was either reclaimed, reused or could be reused afterwards, or recycled or recyclable. There was also no plastic used. I wanted to show a zero waste, plastic free, sustainable wedding with no compromise on aesthetic.

The Willow and Rust ethos is very much based around the environment and sustainability, I like to focus on outdoor weddings as they are already more eco-friendly than traditional venues due to their very nature. I also work with a great selection of suppliers who focus on sustainability and reducing the environmental impact a wedding has. There are so many small things couples can do when planning that have a big impact on the carbon footprint of the day, and I know that this is becoming more and more important to couples when planning their weddings.

The venue, Overgrown Acres in Nottinghamshire is a beautiful outdoor tipi venue. However in this shoot I wanted to utilise the beautiful surroundings and have everything outdoors, so we used the venues open spaces and woodland area to really showcase the outdoor, nature loving and sustainable aspects of this shoot.

The palette was soft pastel shades with elements of rattan and earthenware ceramics to add warmth and texture. The whole look was very much about texture with the dried flowers and macramé pieces adding to the layering.

The floral designer used dried and silk flowers which could be reused again afterwards, and she used wire and hand tied them rather than foam.

The dress was sourced from a small company that hand make all of their gowns to order and have a strong ethical ethos. Made from natural ethically sourced fabrics it consisted of two pieces, a top and a skirt, so the pieces could be worn again separately after the event. The top with jeans for a night out and the skirt with a more casual coloured T-shirt and white trainers.

We took some pictures at the end where the model had changed into jeans with the top still on to show this. The suit was borrowed from a local wedding hire boutique and the model wore his own shirt and shoes.

I sourced the props from local vintage and second-hand shops and what I couldn’t find there I managed to borrow. I think using preloved items wherever possible in all aspects of life is a must to reduce waste, and there are so many beautiful things out there just waiting to be given a new lease of life.

The food for the grazing table and the ingredients for the cake were all locally sourced and the cake was minimally decorated with dried flowers.

As well as our two models we had a lovely addition to the wedding party in the form of our fury friend Rosie, she lives at the venue and very much enjoyed being part of the day! There is definitely a trend towards including fury members of the family in the day, so it was great to show this element.

The stationery was sourced from a small wedding stationery business and was printed on recycled seed paper which can be planted after the event and left to grow into beautiful wildflowers to serve as a reminder of the day.
