Beautiful Country Barn Relaxed Family Wedding

I adore the combination of love, the rustic setting and pretty touches at this wedding.

Tim and Katie tied the knot on the 18th July 2015 at The Barn at South Milton in Devon. Their ceremony was held outdoors and Katie walked down the aisle with their daughter Eden, which made for a very special moment indeed. They then headed into the beautiful barn for the party, which was festooned in fairy lights, bunting, hessian and gorgeous florals.

Katie chose to wear Eden by Jenny Packham which is just the most exquisite of dresses, while Tim was suited and booted in Reiss. Such a stylish and very loved up pair.

THE PROPOSAL

On a special secluded beach in Devon called Sunny Cove.

THE VISION

A really relaxed, family friendly day.

THE PLANNING PROCESS

Planning the wedding had to take a bit of a back seat as we have a young daughter, Eden. We took our time with things and weren’t too specific about anything, apart from the fact that we want our guests to have a lovely relaxed day. We trusted out florist, venue and caterers to do what they do best. In the few weeks before we spent a bit more time making some handmade touches for the wedding. All in all it was nice to plan and not too stressful.

BUDGET

No real budget. Definitely not big bucks though.

THE VENUE

The Barn at South Milton in Devon. It was a cattle barn in a previous life with lovely fields and a view of the sea. We had the barn for the whole weekend and many of our guests camped with us on the Friday and Saturday nights.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES

Jenny Packham – Eden (Same name as out daughter but this wasn’t intended, just a nice surprise). My head band was also Jenny Packham.

It was the first one I tried on.

THE READINGS & MUSIC

“Us two” – A.A. Milne. “Sonnet XII” – Pablo Neruda. “The Future” – Emma Salmon.

Entrance song – Berlin Song – Ludovico Einaudi.

Exit Song – Fairytale Lullaby – John Martyn.

GROOM’S ATTIRE

Tim’s suit was from Reiss, Shoes from Russell and Bromley and Tie from M&S.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS

Helen – Best friend and Maid of honour. Lucy and Natalie – My two sisters.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER

Holly Deacon of Holly Bobbins. She is one of Tim’s oldest friends. It was very important to us both to have her as our photographer.

THE HONEYMOON

We spent a few days at the Driftwood Hotel on the Roseland peninsula in Cornwall.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR

We were lucky enough to have our ceremony outside with guests sat on hay bales and picnic rugs over looking the sea. The meal we had in the barn on long tables with a banquet style BBQ. The flowers were in jam jars on the tables. Bunting and long strings of lights from the ceiling of the barn.

THE FLOWERS

Roxy Clowe by Wildflower Devon. They were absolutely stunning, I was completely overwhelmed by how beautiful she had made them.

THE CAKE

Naked wedding cake. The sponges were made by the local bakery who also did our catering and my Mum arranged and decorated them.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS

Eden wasn’t very well on the day of the wedding and refused to be held by anyone else. As a result I had to walk down the aisle with her but really it was the loveliest moment. She cheered up walking with me and waved at everyone as we walked amongst them.

Never have I seen so many smiling, happy faces all looking at me and wishing us well as our family became even more united. It was so special because it was everyone we love most in the world. I’ll never, ever forget that.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES

Try not to worry about it too much. Everyone is there because they love you, that in itself will make the day very special to all.
