I love these magical, glittery and fairy lit wedding ideas. Inspired by A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Anna Pumer, WWW fave and Kick Ass Workshop founder decided to put on an extravagant styled shoot for her students. Set at Moulin de la Materette in the French Pyrenees, the space was decked in candles, rich fabrics, trailing ivy and glamorous stationery.
These images are just perfect to inspire glitzy wintry cosy weddings with a difference. With an alternative bridal look; think heavy embellishment and a statement crown and a medieval groom, working just perfectly with the dramatic styling. Wow.
Thanks so much to Anna Pumer Photography for sharing these incredible images with us.
“This Midsummer Night’s Dream styled shoot took place at Anna Pumer Photography’s Kick Ass Workshop in the south of France. It was created as an antidote to light, airy, pretty wedding styling. We wanted to create a dark, gothic, magical, ethereal, otherworldly wedding scene. Stevie Nicks was a big influence, as was Chelsea Wolfe and Fever Ray music videos. We chose a dress with a genuine boho 70s vibe complete with drapey sleeves and a dreamlike feel, with hints of woodland life to match the scene. Jo at the Couture Company created the perfect dress – a floaty kimono dress with a woodland belt and shoulder detail and a shimmery gold sequin slip.
We also wanted to showcase just how beautiful winter weddings can be, with candles, fairy lights and lanterns. The plush velvet tablecloth, gold plates and cutlery, deep red flowers and fur stool covers (which were actually found near the venue in a dilapidated caravan – we’d originally bought faux fur to use and do not endorse real fur!) added to the cosy, wintery vibe. The cake is a woodland scene, covered in moss (edible!) and insects (also edible – and real!) crawling up it, with marzipan mushrooms on top.
The crowns were made by Rachel. The idea was go big or go home, so she created these dramatic wedding crowns. A lot of thought and effort was also put into Steve’s crown and outfit – we felt that grooms don’t have nearly as much attention or fashion accessories as brides, so we countered that with a gold-sprayed pine cone crown and almost King Henry VIII-esque cloak and cravat.
The shoot was intended to take place in the woods, but as we started to prepare, the heavens opened – not what you expect in the south of France! We moved it into the terrace, which was surrounded by bamboo, creating an indoor woodland.”
