This morning i have the pleasure of introducing another wonderful member of the {www} family to you. This time it’s the Yorkshire based wedding photographers, York Place Studios, who consist of  brother and sister photography team, Dominique and Liam. These two produce dynamic, emotion filled images, that are classic in style and are sure to be treasured forever…..

{w} Hi Dominique and Liam, could you firstly tell {www} readers a little bit about you?

We’re a brother and sister team based in the gorgeous seaside town of Scarborough. When we’re not down on the seafront eating fish & chips and ice cream we’re lucky enough to travel all over the UK and abroad photographing some incredible weddings! We absolutely adore our job, love meeting new people and are completely obsessed with weddings!

{w} What do you love/dislike about your job?

Weddings have such an incredible atmosphere and there are so many beautiful, intimate moments throughout the day from the first kiss to the tear in a fathers eye as he walks his daughter down the aisle; it’s hugely inspiring and packed full of creative opportunities. We love getting to work with amazing people and be part of one of the happiest days of their lives and we’ve made so many great friends in the process. I guess the worst part of the job is carrying all the equipment around! The morning after a wedding we both tend to wake up with sore arms but a massive smile on our faces!

{w} How did you get into photography and into the wedding industry?

We’ve both always loved photography; it was our Grandad’s passion and he was a massive influence on both of us. When he passed away he left me his Canon A1, my first proper camera and that’s when I really got the bug! I studied photography at college and University whilst Liam studied Interactive design specialising in digital media. Whilst I started out as a conceptual artist a photographer friend had made the decision to retire and asked if we would be interested in taking over the business. Liam and I have always bounced our creative ideas off one another and had been looking for a project to collaborate on so we leapt at the chance to go into business together! The studio didn’t do weddings before we took over but having photographed my first wedding when I was 16 I had fallen in love with them and it quickly became the core part of our business and our favourite thing to photograph!

{w} What do you aim to achieve for your clients?

We want our clients to walk away with photographs they can treasure for a lifetime; physical memories they can proudly show their grandkids in their old age and that are guaranteed to always bring a smile to their faces. Our images are contemporary and timeless and with two of us working throughout the day we ensure that we never miss a moment. We spend a lot of time really getting to know our clients and making sure they feel comfortable with us so that we can encapsulate their style and personality within the images. We believe that wedding photographs should be a truthful reflection of the day and capture the atmosphere and emotion throughout and we aim to allow our brides and grooms to forget the camera is there and get on with enjoying the most important day of their lives.

{w} What style is your work?

We shoot primarily using documentary techniques but draw on influences as varied as Anne Lebowitz, Henri Cartier Bresson and even Martin Scorsese to create unique fine art imagery. Though Liam and I each have unique characteristics to our photography we work incredibly closely together to create a fluent overall style. We both believe in unobtrusive, sympathetic photography, quietly capturing a truthful reflection of the day but where Liam works primarily to photojournalistic principles I’m influenced by fashion directed portraiture. With these two artistic ideals aligned we are able to create stylish, timeless fine art photographs that candidly capture the mood and emotion of the day forever.

{w} Could you tell us some information about your packages/prices?

Our basic package is £1400 and includes all day photography from two photographers, an engagement shoot before the wedding, a DVD of high resolution images that you can print and share with friends and family to your heart’s content and a permanent online slideshow. In addition we offer a range of beautiful handcrafted wedding albums to display your cherished memories forever.

{w} Do you have any tips for couples in selecting their wedding photographer?

Personality can be a big factor: you need to feel completely comfortable with your photographer or no matter how good they are you’re never going to completely relax and get those epic shots you want! If you can, go and meet them in person or, if that’s not possible, see if you can do a video meeting online. Also check out their blog (if they have one). This will give you the chance to see how they work through the wedding from start to finish rather than just a selection of their best images. Also it will tend to show their most recent work; photographers are always developing their skills and often make subtle changes to their style so the blog is the best way to see the kind of work they’re producing right now!

{w} How can we get in touch with you?
