Fun & Colourful Summer Yorkshire Village Hall Wedding

Wow, what a treat I have in store for you with WWW readers Laura and George’s beautiful Yorkshire village hall wedding.

I just can’t get over the multicoloured decor, the vibrant sunflower wedding bouquets and all the stylish outfits. There was an idyllic outdoor ceremony in the summer sunshine, a fantastic confetti moment with homemade paper confetti and stunning wedding signs.

Yes, we actually discovered our venue through WWW and we used so many blog posts to help with inspo! A true lifesaver! WWW has everything and anything when it comes to wedding inspo. We were able to pinch ideas from so many different weddings, especially those that had taken place at our own venue.

Yorkshire Village Hall Wedding

The Proposal

It was NYE 2020, and after a pretty rubbish year locked in our homes (and many attempts from George to propose romantically on holidays we had booked). George finally got on one knee at midnight, surrounded only by our pet cat and dog.

It wasn’t what he had imagined, but it was perfect nonetheless.

The Vision

We knew we wanted to do it ourselves, so we could really make it personal and our own. After browsing Pinterest and WWW, we decided on a colourful theme. From there, it became apparent we just wanted it to be fun and relaxed.

We also have some amazingly creative family and friends who were more than happy to get involved and help us make it exactly as we envisioned. From a hand-painted Order of the Day from my sister, to over one hundred handmade pom-poms made by our mums, we knew it was going to be filled with personal touches too to make it truly unique.

Your Outfits

My dress was a Madi Lane gown from Scarlet Poppy boutique in Leeds. I knew I wanted an A-Line dress, something elegant but a bit different too. The sparkle and the corset top added a modern twist.

George’s suit was from Suits Direct at York Designer Outlet. He knew he wanted blue, and when he saw the lighter blue suit, he knew it would tie in perfectly with the bright theme on a summer’s day. George and his best man wore matching pink bow ties.

The bouquets and buttonholes were made by Emma at The Petal Studio and were absolutely stunning and fitted in with the colour scheme perfectly.

The Venue

We chose to celebrate our wedding at East Keswick Village Hall. This was the only venue we looked at (partly because we were in lockdown at the time).

As soon as we visited, we fell in love and knew it was the one for us. Tucked away in a North Yorkshire village, it provided the perfect backdrop for the outdoor ceremony we so desperately wanted. The hall itself was a blank canvas which was perfect for our vision.

The Ceremony & Music

I walked down the aisle with my bridesmaids to Perfect Symphony by Ed Sheeran and Andrea Bocelli. I love Bocelli, so I entered on his verse.

The ceremony was led by the brilliant Penny at ‘Penelope Jane celebrant’. Penny was absolutely fantastic. She perfectly captured our whole relationship, and it was as if she had known us for years. We wanted laughter and happy tears and that’s exactly what we got.

The ceremony was outside and the weather was on our side, so it was just perfect. The backdrop was so beautiful too. We sealed the deal with tequila shots which later resulted in being bought tequila shots from our guests for the rest of the day, leaving us with a terrible hangover!

We ended the ceremony with confetti, which we painstakingly handmade ourselves from biodegradable tissue paper!

The Styling & Decor

We knew we wanted as much colour as possible for our summer wedding and we knew we wanted it to be as personal as possible, which meant a lot of DIY-ing!

The styling and decor was where I was completely in my element. We wanted to design every aspect of the venue ourselves. The ceiling was the biggest challenge and took 5 hours to construct the day before. We bought 3km of colourful ribbon to fill the ceiling, but the end result was just perfect.

The top table garland was created by Emma at The Petal Studio. Around the room we filled gin bottles and jam jars ourselves with colourful flowers, eucalyptus and foliage. They added another layer of colour to the room and made for such pretty centrepieces.

The order of the day sign was painted by my sister. It needed to be big to fill the space we had and we wanted a floral border to keep in with the colourful theme. So many people commented on how lovely it was.

My mum made our wedding cake (and my grandma made my mum’s). We knew we wanted rustic but had no idea it would turn out as beautiful and tasty as it did. My mum surprised us with the mini figures of me and George which was super special.

Outside, we had bunting, blankets, and games – all of which were handmade. The blankets were kindly made by George’s granny who is super skilled in knitting!

The Honeymoon

We decided on Tanzania, starting with a 4-day safari in the Serengeti then 10 days on Zanzibar island for a more relaxing holiday.

We had the best time and would definitely recommend Tanzania for a honeymoon destination.

Your Photographer & Filmmaker

Maddie Farris Photography was our photographer and she was absolutely perfect. As soon as we saw her photos on social media, we knew we just had to book her in.

We wanted candid photographs which captured the happiness of the day and that’s exactly what she delivered. She is incredibly skilled at what she does.

Memorable Moments

Honestly, every moment was memorable, but some highlights included:

Tequila shots to seal the deal
The cows which came to see us throughout the day
The speeches were hilarious, touching, and personal
The dancefloor was ALIVE all night. Our fantastic DJ kept everyone dancing
MANY guests (and the bride) got some serious sunburn – not necessarily a good memory, but something we can laugh over now!

Advice For Other Couples

Don’t spend hours and hours making decisions which, inevitably, no one will notice. I spent hours choosing fonts, sweet jars, hairstyles, and the list goes on.

Don’t conform to tradition if you don’t want – tradition went out the window at our wedding which made it exactly as we wanted.

Enjoy your day! Find quiet moments alone with your new husband/wife. It is your day after all.

Don’t spend money on things you don’t think are necessary. I decided not to have a stylist or my make-up done, I avoided hiring a car, and canapes were swapped for a grazing table.
