Tell couples about your experience and approach
I've ben shooting wedding for many years, starting with film back in the day! Since then I've been the wedding photographer of the year 3 times, and still winning awards for my documentary, candid style of wedding coverage.
If you want to simply relax without being forced into those poses that make you cringe, while enjoying the company of your family and friends, get in touch, as that's my speciality. My website's simple tagline is: Candid Wedding Photographer: Keeping it Real : Genuine Wedding Moments
Are you super chatty or will be you be a fly on the wall?
I'm a mixture of chatty and fly on the wall. While 95% of my coverage is fly on the wall, without interrupting the flow of a wedding day, many couples still want a limited amount of group photos. That's when I like to help keep people relaxed and enjoying the experience with a bit of chatty banter.
What can couples do to get the most out of their wedding photography on the day?
Read this article I wrote to get the best from me as your documentary wedding photographer: https://cliveblair.co.uk/documentary-wedding-photographer/
Note that, although I'm a Birmingham West Midlands wedding photographer, I do travel extensively around the country and abroad. So all I need is full communication of all the key locations where I need to be and what to expect at each location, and for how long. That way I can advise you on the logistics of what you'd like to make sure I'm in the right place at the right time to get the best images for you.
What are your artistic influences?
There are a few documentary wedding photographers who I admire eg Kevin Mullins. But I like to get my main inspiration from outside of weddings, like photographers at Life and Magnum Photos, social media groups for street photography etc
What was your favourite wedding shoot, and why?
My favourite wedding has to be my last destination wedding in Mexico. I remember feeling so privileged to be flown across the world to shoot a beach wedding in a resort in Cancun. The whole 4 days of being there and hanging out with the family and their friends, was a dream job with many treasured memories and images captured.
What kinds of moments are you looking to capture?
I aim to capture natural, storytelling moments that freeze important moments in time. Images such as the mother of the bride wiping away a tear, as she watches her daughter get married. The look of joy on people's faces as they meet up after many years apart. The funny moments as the cake starts to topple over and seeing the look of shock captured throughout the frame. These are the unscripted moments that can't re-created and make them unique for each wedding.
Why should couples choose you as a photographer?
If you're envisioning a wedding with a relaxed vibe, free from the constraints of endless group posed photos, then I'm here to offer you that freedom. I specialize in capturing candid moments that authentically narrate the true story of your wedding day.
Have you won awards or been published in magazines?
I've been awarded Photographer of the Year three times and have been published in various magazines, including 'You and Your Wedding.' Additionally, my work has been featured on several wedding blogs. I'm honoured to be listed in the Top 10 in the West Midlands by WPJA, having received 24 awards to date, and recognized as one of the Top 100 photographers in the UK by Your Perfect Wedding Photographer.
What is the most important thing to you when you photograph weddings?
I aim to capture the authentic essence of each wedding in every frame. I believe in letting the day unfold naturally, without imposing my own vision onto it through excessive posing. This way, I can document the genuine story of the day from an insider's perspective, ensuring that those who weren't present can still feel the magic. If an outsider can experience the event as if they were there, then I consider my job well done
