I am thrilled this morning to be introducing you to a new member of the Whimsical Wonderland Weddings family, the wonderful London based wedding photographer, David Jones Photography.
David has the most beautiful unobtrusive photography style, resulting in classically gorgeous images. Without further ado, i introduce you to David and some of his amazing work….
{w} Hi David, could you firstly tell {www} readers a little bit about you?
Hello, I’m David, 42, and I live with Veronica, my girlfriend, in Dulwich, South London. I love riding bicycles, both near and far, and will hopefully love renovating our new house, just up the road, when we move in in a month or so.
My co-photographer Lucy ably assists me on wedding days.
{w} What do you love/dislike about your job?
In two words: Wowing people. I love the reaction we get when we present our work.
I love the freedom we enjoy to be creative. Meeting new faces and seeing areas of the country that we wouldn’t normally find ourselves in are also big pluses.
Dislikes? Hmm, not many. I’m not very fond of the whole Facebook self-promotion movement, so I get round this by not doing it!
{w} How did you get into photography and into the wedding industry?
I once rode my bicycle to Cape Town, and took loads of pictures along the way. When I returned a book publisher wanted to use some of them for book covers. I decided at that point to turn professional and immersed myself in photography. I shot fashion, food, street, travel, all sorts of photography for a few years before photographing my sister’s wedding. It was an instant fix and I’ve not looked back.
{w} What do you aim to achieve for your clients?
I want to make natural images that truly move them. As long as there’s emotion involved when they see our work I don’t mind if they’re laughing, crying, or both. And I aim to achieve this with as little fuss as possible. That means no directing, no barking orders at their guests and no cheezy poses!
{w} What style is your work?
Spontaneous, classic, unobtrusive, natural.
I want to give people images that look fantastic now and fantastic in 30 years. I’m really motivated by timeless pictures, whether they’re in colour or black and white. There are some kooky effects around the wedding photography world right now, but I’m not sure how they’ll look in a few years.
Who remembers when photographers used to turn everything in an image black and white apart from the bride’s bouquet? We don’t see that so much now 🙂
{w} Could you tell us some information about your packages/prices?
Packages including myself and Lucy, a DVD of printable images and a web gallery start at £1600.
{w} Do you have any tips for couples in selecting their wedding photographer?
Quite simply, to look at as much of their work as possible. Blogs can be good for this. Packages that bulge with albums, prints, canvases and drinks mats are all great but if their images don’t slap you around the face then it really doesn’t matter!
