I am sooo excitied to introduce today’s newest sponsor of the blog, the amazing Nicola from Daffodil Waves Photography. Nicola is one of the nicest people i have come across in the wedding industry and her photography simply blows me away.
Nicola from Daffodil Waves Photography specialises in Vintage Wedding Photography and is based in Birmingham and the West Midlands but is available throughout the UK and beyond. “From flowers to faces, I take pictures and portraits of every detail to offer a story, which you can display for years to come, reliving your special day.”
Take it away Nicola 🙂
{w} Hi Nicola, could you firstly tell {www} readers a little bit about you?
My name is Nicola and I am Daffodil Waves Photography. I’ll explain a little about my name. I was born in Swansea and I lived right by the Sea. Out of my bedroom window you could see the sea and used to sit on my windowsill watching the world go by and the waves crashing in. Daffodils are also my favourite flower so that is where the name Daffodil Waves Photography came from.
I Married my perfect Man in 2008 so have first hand knowledge on what Brides are going through and how important it is to capture every moment of their day. I wasn’t one of these people that always knew they wanted to be a Photographer but I did always have a camera in my hand! It was after I started studying Photography that I really found out where my heart belonged (and dark room photography gives you a whole new respect for digital).
{w} What do you love/dislike about your job?
I love meeting new people, being with the Bride the moment they have the ‘Oh my goodness, this is really happening’ moment, seeing all the plans they have told me about come together, being the one to capture the memories and receiving the phone call/text/email after the day telling me they cried looking at them. I really tried hard to think of something I dislike so I’m not just saying “Noooo, I love everything” but seriously, I can’t think of one thing I dislike.
{w} How did you get into photography and into the wedding industry?
I got into my business whilst studying Photography. They asked everyone there “What field of Photography do you see yourself leaning towards” and I was the only person who knew. Instantly I said “Weddings” and while I sat there looking at the Whites of my fellow students eyes as they sat there in total fear that I could want to shoot Weddings, I was very confident with my choice. I then shot a few Weddings and it snow balled from there.
{w} What do you aim to achieve for your clients?
Photos that capture the story of their day and exactly what they dreamed of! My clients always seem to turn into friends so we get to know each other very well. Along this journey we share our thoughts and visions (usually over Nando’s or cocktails) so by the time the day arrives it’s like we are two friends hanging out.
{w} What style is your work?
I try to blend into the background as no one likes a camera up in his or her face so I guess my style is very reportage and relaxed. The Bride and Groom are nervous enough on the day without the worried stress of having to stand a certain way.
{w} Could you tell us some information about your packages/prices?
My packages are usually all day coverage with a bit of photo wall thrown in but I also understand everyone is different. I am up for listening to your ideas and putting a plan together to suit your needs.
{w} Do you have any tips for couples in selecting their wedding photographer?
Choose someone you get on well with. This person is going to be with you all day. I understand having a budget is important (believe me, mine wasn’t very big) but try not to let this be your main focus. Look at their work (a whole album) and how those pictures make you feel. After all, this is what you are going to have to look back on.
