I’m am over the moon today to intriduce a fabulous wedding photographer to your radar, the brilliant Trevor Wilson Silver Photography.
Trevor is a Scotland based wedding photographer, who will travel throught the UK. He says, “I will provide natural, as-the-moment-happens wedding day photography, capturing the spontaneous fun and romantic moments that will tell the story of your wedding day with the minimum of fuss, leaving you time to enjoy your day as you should.”
Take it away Trevor….
{w} Hi Trevor, could you firstly tell {www} readers a little bit about you?
Hi! I was dragged up to sunny Scotland to marry my Glaswegian wife Fiona over a decade ago and I love it here now, apart from the occasional spots of rain… Although I mainly photograph weddings I just consider myself to be a general photographer and I will take pictures of anything at all. Photography is still one of my hobbies (how lucky am I to be able to combine work with something I love!). By taking pictures of things other than just weddings keeps me fresh and constantly inspired.
Aside from photography I love the great outdoors and use my limitless annual leave to travel as much as possible. I love gardening (it’s not just for old men you know…) and camping in my vintage caravan! In fact, every year I will take bookings for wedding that are a long way from home just as an excuse to take the caravan somewhere new!
{w} What do you love/dislike about your job?
I think I have a great job and there are few things I would rather do to make a living. I get to work with my clients on one of the happiest days of their lives and being part of such a personal and emotional day is a very uplifting experience. Because of my documentary approach to wedding photography I try and almost blend in as one of the guests so that, when I approach people to take their picture, they are so much more relaxed and comfortable with my presence. This makes the day’s work feel less like a chore and more like an enjoyable experience. The occasional sneaky canapé always keeps me happy too…
Like every job it has it’s ups and downs. One of the less enjoyable parts of what I do is dealing with the occasional grumpy minister or venue manager who has been messed around in the past by less scrupulous photographers and would definitely prefer it if we weren’t there at all. Even then, I can understand their point of view but sometimes I have to fight tooth and nail behind the scenes to get the coverage my clients want without upsetting anyone. Having good diplomatic skills is a very useful qualification for my job that I make sure my clients will never know about!
{w} How did you get into photography and into the wedding industry?
I have been a very keen photographer since I was a child but I was also a keen scientist and my first job was as a veterinary lab assistant! It was actually my own wedding in 1999 that really inspired me to set up Silver Photography. What my wife Fiona and I wanted from our photographs was just documentary coverage of our day just as I offer my clients now. Whilst our own photographs were technically good they just weren’t the style we were hoping for and I remember being a bit disappointed at the amount of time we had to spend having them taken. When I looked at other wedding photographers in Scotland I noticed that there really weren’t very many people offering a more photo-journalistic approach so I decided to fill the gap with my own business. I have stuck firmly to my belief that not everyone wants their wedding day to revolve solely around the photographs and, over ten years down the line, I still have plenty of couples seeking me out to be their photographer.
{w} What do you aim to achieve for your clients?
For me this is simple. I want to record my clients’ wedding day, from start to finish, so that they can look back at their photographs in years to come and relive their day. Almost as important as the pictures I am taking is the method in which they are taken. I don’t want to spoil their day by taking up any more of their precious time than is necessary. When I hear from clients that they didn’t even notice me there on the day that makes me very satisfied as I know I have done a good job.
{w} What style is your work?
There are at least three names given to my style of wedding photography and, to me at least, they all mean the same thing – reportage, documentary and wedding photojournalism. Basically I will come to your wedding and record it for you. I will take photographs almost constantly of as many different aspects of the day as possible right through to either the speeches or the first dance. Usually, somewhere in the day, I will be asked to set aside a little time to take a few family pictures and, of course, some slightly more posed pictures of the bride and groom and I am more than happy to accommodate my clients specific wishes. I just want you to be happy and enjoy your day after all.
In my experience couples have one main worry about this style of wedding photography and that is that they won’t get any pictures of their family or the wedding party and they will miss out on important shots. I spend a lot of time assuring people that this certainly isn’t anything to worry about. I will have a detailed discussion with the bride and groom some time before the wedding so that I know exactly what shots they might specifically want and I will always be very happy to take these pictures.
If you book me as your photographer then your day won’t just be one long photography session with a lot of standing around and posing for me. You will be with your guests enjoying yourself and letting me do all the hard work – it’s what I am good at!
{w} Could you tell us some information about your packages/prices?
I offer all of my clients a wide range of packages from a Digital package, which includes a disk of all of the edited photographs so that you can print your own pictures, up to packages which include a range of different styles and sizes of wedding albums. Currently my prices start at around £900 and go up to about £1800.
I have photographed all kinds of weddings with all kinds of budgets and can honestly say that smaller intimate weddings are just as fantastic as huge fairytale castle mega-budget weddings (often even more fun in fact)! I just love photographing weddings and I want to be able to work with as wide a range of couples and their budgets as I possibly can.

{w} Do you have any tips for couples in selecting their wedding photographer?
The most important thing is to realise that there is a lot of choice when it comes to wedding photography and that there is no need to just plump for the first one you see. It is vital that you get to meet the person who will be photographing your wedding (in my case, it’s just me!) and, at the very least, have a good chat on the telephone. It is crucial that you get on with the person who will be working with you for an entire day. The choice is up to you – don’t be swayed by your mum or feel you have to choose the same photographer that your friend had – you might not have the same tastes!
And for my top tip – PLEASE don’t be shy about asking for a discount if you love a particular photographer but your budget doesn’t stretch far enough. Like many people my prices are a starting point but everything is flexible – if your wedding is going to be a photogenic masterpiece, and you feed me enough tea and cake, I will be happy to make you an offer you can’t refuse!
And one final tip (promise) – don’t worry about the location of your photographer. I cover weddings all over Scotland and the North of England and love travelling to new venues. Everything we need to do together after wedding is done over the internet so there is never any need to come back and see me again after the big day (unless you really want to pop in for a cup of tea of course!).
{w} How can we get in touch with you?
My website is a good starting point – http://www.silverphotography.co.uk
My blog has a lot of up-to-date information and photographs from recent weddings. It might also be worth a look to get ideas about your venue!

For those couples who have been researching information about wedding photography in magazines it might have been suggested to you that you only choose a photographer who has been accredited by the BIPP or the MPA. That is all very well and good but what they don’t mention is that these societies promote really dull traditional photography – yawn… I in fact used to be a qualified member, and then left out of sheer boredom. I am, however, very proud to be a qualified member of a much more forward thinking professional society, the Wedding Photojournalists Association (WPJA) https://www.wpja.com/. If you want inspiration for your wedding photographs then this it a good place to start.
Thanks so much Trevor, it was great to meet you! Do visit Trevor’s site and if you make an enquiry please do mention {www} 🙂 xoxo
