This sun shining summer wedding is sure to land a big fat smile on your face this fine Friday.
Kat and Tom were married on the 1st August 2015 at The Winter Garden in Hexham, Northumberland. The setting was really remarkable and the glass house so very beautiful, it provided a gorgeous blank canvas for Kat and Tom to make their mark.
They opted against a colour scheme and their talented friends provided the music. Plus family friends arranged the flowers and baked the cake, it was a real joint effort and I love that.
The outfits were all so stylish. The bridesmaids wore sparkly Miss Selfridge frocks, the boys had colour pop orange ties and Kat wore a strapless Nicky Flynn gown. Stunning.
Thanks goes to the brilliant Matt Penberthy Photography for sharing these images.

THE PROPOSAL | We were on holiday in Puglia, Italy. It was the last night of our holiday and Tom took me for a walk along the nearby coastline. We had been sat for a while looking out at the sunset over the sea when Tom said he had a gift for me which is when he gave my the ring and asked if I would marry him! We were on holiday with friends who were all in on it, so when we got back to the villa they were all waiting in suspense with champagne and a traditional Italian engagement cake which they’d had made earlier that day without us knowing. Good job I said yes!
THE VISION | We wanted our wedding to reflect both of us. We envisioned a day where people could feel relaxed and enjoy themselves. We had always pictured ourselves having our wedding outdoors be that in a field or a forest, and wanted to put all of our creativity into making it special and unique. We wanted to incorporate as many friends and family as we could.
THE PLANNING PROCESS | We found an amazing venue that had amazing grounds, with a glass house that was able to bring the outdoors inside for the ceremony. We had pretty much a blank canvas, which provided a space to make our own. We planned to incorporate our love of colour without a strict scheme/theme. We had friends that could help out on the musical side – a very talented pianist, two female singers a DJ. We had Kat’s mum’s friend make the cake and another of her friends do the flowers. Everything just seemed to fall into place.
THE VENUE | The Winter Garden Hexham.
THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | The dress was by Nicky Flynn and the shoes Irregular Choice.
FINDING THE DRESS | To start with I was looking for a 1950’s tea style dress and I’d looked in a few bridal shops but nothing really caught my eye. I was up in Berwick with my mum and we popped into a bridal shop and I found the prefect dress. A completely different style to what I’d been looking for!
GROOM’S ATTIRE | I wanted my suit to be something special, not just a one day wear, something I would wear again and again with memories. I love the 1920s cut and wanted the fabric to have a similar style. I travelled to Leicester and found a tailor who had some great ideas and brought my ideas to life!
THE READINGS & MUSIC | We had our friend play piano and sing whilst our guests arrived. After the ceremony whist we were having photos taken he played with two of Kat’s friends singing and later on in the evening we had our friend DJing.
BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Dresses – Miss Selfridges! Accessorises – Accessorize.
THE FLOWERS | Kat’s mum’s friend.
THE CAKE | Kat’s mum’s friend.
YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Our photographer Matt Penberthy was recommended to us via a friend. We instantly liked his style of photography as he was able to pick out individual emotions with an artistic style of composition. We found Matt very approachable both in chats leading up to the day and throughout the day itself. He captured our day in just the way we wanted it to be. Great guy!
THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | We had to hire all of the tables and chairs for the ceremony and the meal. We had to hire in caterers and the bar. Because of this it meant we chose exactly what we wanted. We did all of the decoration of the venue ourselves down to getting hay bales from a local farm!
THE HONEYMOON | Still saving!
MEMORABLE MOMENTS | The whole day was and still is an amazing memory, but seeing all our friends and family in one place having such a good time is priceless.
ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Planning ahead is essential. Include friends and family to help along the way but make sure its your day!
