Romantic Pink Summer Glamping Wedding

Pastel wedding perfection courtesy of WWW readers Gemma and Adam today, who tied the knot on the 11th June 2016 at Bell Hall in Yorkshire. They had a vision to marry outdoors and the venue fitted the bill perfectly with the option for a majestic tipi reception too. Using an array of pom poms, bunting and paper chains the tipi was transformed into the prettiest space. They also had glamping bell tents for their guests to stay over the night, which gave a really lovely festival feel to their celebrations.

I think my favourite part of their day just has to be those peony bouquets, which worked oh so well with the pale pink and blue bridesmaid dresses too. Gemma wore a romantic tulle gown with sweetheart neckline and gypsophila in her hair, didn’t she look just stunning? Adam meanwhile chose a check suit and bow tie for a really on trend groom look. THE PROPOSAL | Adam proposed while we were on holiday in Riviera Maya, Mexico having a romantic meal for two on the beach. Perfect.

THE VISION | Relaxed, colourful and fun.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | I found the whole planning process fun but a little stressful at times.

We are not religious and so we knew that we didn’t want to get married in a church and ideally we would like to get married outdoors but in the UK this can be tricky.

We searched all over for a venue that we loved and then one day when I was searching on Google, Bell Hall came up as a venue with a tipi in gorgeous grounds with the option for an outdoor ceremony. As soon as we met Olly and Eleni the owners we loved them, such a fab couple who could not do more for you and their dogs are like giant friendly horses.

We knew that we wanted something rustic and colourful, the tipi and venue are beautiful but we wanted to personalise it and I love bunting and pom poms so I knew that I needed a lot of these.

We had to arrange and organise a lot of different suppliers but they were all very professional and helpful. I love pinterest and used this a lot to get ideas of things to keep people entertained.

BUDGET | The wedding cost us more than we initially planned but we don’t regret it one bit as we had the best day.

THE VENUE | Bell Hall, Escrick, York.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | The Dress was purchased from the Northallerton Bridal Outlet along with the belt for £650.00, which was much cheaper than in the bridal stores and my pink shoes were from Office. My sister Heidi lent me a pearl bracelet, which went perfectly and I loved it. My make up was done by Hayley Parker and she is such a lovely person and a great make up artist. All of us had our hair done by Sarah from Reflections in York, she was great and helped loads with tips on the morning.

FINDING THE DRESS | I am not a girl who has dreamed of her wedding day since she was little and I would describe myself as a tom boy so the whole dress shopping experience was a bit daunting.

I visited a number of wedding shops and initially thought that I wanted the mermaid style dress. I went to a shop in Darlington with my mum and sister and I tried on a big dress thinking it would rule that style out and I loved it but it was very expensive and I felt uncomfortable spending that much.

My friend Laura and I went to Northallerton Bridal Outlet to have a look not knowing what to expect and it was fantastic. I tried lots of dresses on but I knew when I tried the one on as I didn’t want to take it off. I felt like a bride.

GROOM’S ATTIRE | Adam bought his suit and tie from Woven in Durham who were fantastic and loved the first one he tried on. Adam wears a suit for work every day so he something a bit different so he didn’t feel like he was going to work. His shoes were from Kurt Geiger. The best men’s outfits came from Next.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | For the walk in to the ceremony we had Kodaline: The One playing and we walked out to Ed Sheeran: Thinking Out Loud.

Our first dance was a hard one to choose as we wanted something that summed us up so we didn’t want anything too soppy. With my love for the 90’s we ended up with S Club 7 – You’re My Number One.

We had two readings during the ceremony, my Nephew Sam read Charlotte Zolotow’s ‘Pairs of things that go together’ as it was short but fun. Our friend Laura then read the poem On Your Wedding Day by Author Unknown which is a lovely reading.

For the reception drinks we had Lady V playing some amazing music on the Saxophone and on the night we had a disco playing a wide range of songs but plenty of cheesy 90’s songs.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Claire and Anna have been my close friends since we were babies and the girls always look amazing. I didn’t want anything too formal and matching so I let them choose a dress they liked and felt happy in. Both dresses were purchased from ASOS and the girls looked amazing.

THE FLOWERS | Peonies, Hydrangeas and a sprinkle of Gypsophila for my hair.

We wanted to try to have as much ready before the wedding day as possible so I searched the internet for nice artificial flowers for the table arrangements and the buttonholes. I managed to find some lovely hydrangea flowers at Wilkinsons and we made the flower arrangements using wooden crates from Home Bargains.

I knew that I wanted flowers in my hair and opted for gypsophila in the end and I loved the hair piece that Sarah made for me. The bouquets were made from my favourite flowers Peonies and these smelled and looked fab.

THE CAKE | The cake was by a close friend of Adam’s who runs a great bakery in Headingly in Leeds called Love Rouge. We had lemon, vanilla, carrot and chocolate layers and everyone raved about how tasty it was. My particular favourite was the lemon. Again we didn’t want anything too formal and we both love Victoria sponge, so to go with the theme we chose a version of the naked cake decorated in flowers.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Before we even settled on a venue we had decided on the photographer we wanted and that was Helen Russell. Her photos are amazing and so informal which is exactly what we wanted and we can’t recommend her highly enough, she kept the day on track and is so enthusiastic it made the whole experience fun.

Our videographer was a good friend of ours who runs a company called Button Media Management, she did an amazing job, we didn’t even know she was there but she captured the day amazingly.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | I love bunting, pom poms and paper chains so I bought hundreds of each from various places such as eBay and Home Bargains. We went to an event called Festival of Thrift where we bought some bits and bobs to decorate the tipi.

Ebay was my best friend when it came to decorations, I got lots of bargains such as the personalised wooden heart, which we used as a guest book for people to leave messages on.

A sweet table was a must as we had lots of children at the wedding and who doesn’t love sweets.

My friend Laura lent me various bits of fancy dress items for the night and I bought lots of film for my Polaroid camera and left this out for people as a mini photo booth.

Adam and I both love the beach and can be found there most weekends so the giant seaside photo booth prop was one of my favourite purchases to incorporate this in to the day.

It took us two days to decorate the tipi and venue and I am very thankful that lots of our friends and family helped us as everything took longer than we thought.

The ice cream van was high on my list of must haves as I thought it would be nice for the children and to provide a fun snack before the main meal. Richard the owner is a lovely man and did a great job on the day not scrimping on servings either.

We knew we wanted to have glamping on the night and we arranged for glampit to come and set up tents for the guests who wanted to brave camping in the rain on a belly full of beer.

I am not sure what our guests were expecting but we had so many comments on how nice the toilets were from Classic Chambers.

THE HONEYMOON | We both love to surf and so we decided to go on a tour of the South Coast as a mini-moon , starting in Mudeford and ending at Watergate Bay in Newquay. We had an amazing time and intend to honeymoon in Thailand next year when the weather is nice and warm.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | The food was fantastic and everyone has commented on how much they loved it and how full they were when they left.

All the guests queuing up to get an ice cream from the van in their fancy wedding outfits, like big kids.

Seeing our guest’s faces when they saw the Polaroid photos we used as our place settings. We trawled through Facebook to find a funny picture of each guest, which we put on a mini easel (Ebay). I think this helped people get to know each other.

Everyone getting up and dancing to Five, Everybody get up, reliving the 90’s.

My Cousin’s little boy Oscar running around like a little Duracell bunny all day, carrying on even when his braces came off and he lost his trousers.

When my gorgeous Nephew Sam went to throw confetti over me and Ad and it went all over him instead.

When we announced the people on the table who were going to carve the meat dressed in a chefs hat and apron and Tim decided to do it wearing just his apron and hat (thankfully keeping on his pants).

Last but not least was watching everyone play closest to the pin on the night. Cant beat a spot of wedding golf for that element of competition.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Enjoy the day as it goes so fast, take the time to spend with each other and dance the night away.
