Very us: relaxed, unusual and fun.
Richard and Drew
What fun we are set to have today courtesy of Richard and Drew and their The Hide Sheffield wedding celebrations! Richard and Drew were hitched on the 2nd August 2019 at the Sheffield Botanic Gardens followed by a warehouse wedding reception. Their day was so unusual and cool, complete with industrial wedding style, botanical wedding flowers and the sweetest pups.
I love how their day was about them and what they love. It’s something I wax lyrical about here at WWW all the time. Create the day that represents you and you really can’t go far wrong.
Richard and Drew both looked amazing in their chosen outfits, I just love their choice of wedding songs and all the DIY decorations they crafted. Amaze. A big thank you goes to Sasha Lee Photography for sharing these really joyous shots with us. Yay!

In Hoi An, Vietnam. We were visiting the market in the evening and went separate ways to buy some gifts. I watched at a little stall where women were writing people’s names on a grain of rice to be put in lockets for jewellery. We joined back together, talking about our travels and sat watching the river lanterns, Hey Jude was playing in the background (Rich loves The Beatles!). Rich then handed me a ‘gift’ which was a bracelet and a locket with a grain of rice, written on it was ‘marry me?’.
We wanted a relaxed day that was just full of fun, I’m (Drew) not very traditional so we looked at industrial spaces that could be made pretty.

We struggled at first because everything at wedding fairs seemed a little bit too formal and traditional, but then we went to The Indie Wedding Fair. We found a vintage photo booth and suppliers that suddenly fitted us a lot more.
After that most of the planning was left to Richard who did an amazing job!
We managed just under £10,000 like we had hoped. We paid for a lot as we went so it was less of a scare at the end!

Ceremony – Sheffield Botanical Gardens, from the start we knew this was the perfect place to have the ceremony. The building and gardens provided an instantly beautiful venue.
Reception – The Hide, Sheffield
We looked at a lot of warehouses in Sheffield but felt they were too big to create the right atmosphere. When we visited The Hide it a perfect fit with its industrial vibe, and the food was amazing!
Dress – The White Yard
I was after a dress that I didn’t feel restricted in and I wanted a ‘floaty feel’. I loved the layers of the tulle skirt and the the scalloped edges on the sweetheart neckline.
Suits – Burtons
We wanted something tweed looking but lightweight for the summer. All the boys also wore pocket watches.
Rhyanne surprised us with a reading of Love Monkey which was lovely and shouldn’t have been surprising at all as she’s obsessed with monkeys…
Music – we had The Beatles, Here Comes the Sun for walking down the aisle.
Band at The Hide – The Fonics who played an acoustic version of Oasis’s She’s Electric for our first dance and a range of indie music for the evening.

Make up for bride and bridesmaids – Charlotte Morley. Charlotte was amazing, she made us feel very special!
Tom and Sam, Richard’s best men who all met at work at Chesterfield Royal Hospital. Suits – also Burtons.
Rhyanne, maid of honour (best friends since Secondary school) and Ella, bridesmaid. Dresses – Dorothy Perkins.

Flowers including flower crown and our beloved floral dog collars were from Campbell’s Flowers (fellow sighthound lovers).
Richard’s fabulous colleague Sue Wotton.

Sasha Lee – particularly amazing and couldn’t have done better. Sasha’s photos stood out to us as they were so light and as she describes them ‘creamy dreamy’.
Transport – I have to mention Richard’s favourite part of it all, the vintage bus that took all our guests around was such fun!
For décor I spent a year saving bottles and spray painting them, my Mum also got many bits and pieces – we weren’t sure how it would look until the day of set up but I was so pleased when we’d finished.

Orlando, Florida – we’re not the relaxing type, so we spent two weeks enjoying all things Disney. We also swam with manatees and watched a rocket launch which were dreams come true.
Richard’s speech blew me away, he was so funny and sweet. I felt really proud seeing everyone in the room smiling and laughing with him (or at him, either way…).
Live it as if you were a guest at the wedding rather than a host. Enjoy the day for yourselves and you’ll appreciate it all the more!
