There is so much that I love about Hannah and Dan’s York Register Office wedding. Their attitude to wedding planning, their thrifty budget-friendly approach and their family-friendly focus. All just brilliant.
They decided to tie the knot on the 21st April 2021 in York. After their ceremony they wandered the pretty cobbled streets to get some historic and memorable images. They then had an intimate family meal to celebrate.
I also adore their outfits choices. Hannah wore a gorgeous preloved gown teamed with a dried flower bouquet, while Dan wore a smart grey suit and camel tie.
Such a special day! Big thanks to Hannah Brooke Photography for sharing with us these stunning images.

Daniel proposed on my birthday in a restaurant in Harrogate back in 2016 – we’d been together for 3 years and it was a complete surprise.
A simple, intimate ceremony that was just about us and our children. We originally planned it for 2018, but I fell pregnant and then along came covid. It suited us well to keep things simple and just about us, though.
£1200 – this was a massive thing for us, we like to be savvy, my dress came eBay and Dan’s suit was an investment piece that he’d already worn to two other weddings.

York Register office with our parents, my brother and of course the kids. Followed by a family meal at Ate O’Clock restaurant in York – we were at least allowed to sit outside when we got married and the sun shone for us!
My dress was by Phase Eight from eBay. Dan’s suit was from Moss Bros.
We weren’t allowed to choose our own music – they chose an instrumental of a Thousand years but Christina Perri which was perfect actually. The ceremony was a straightforward exchange of vows – our kids are 4 & 2 so we needed to keep things simple before their attention spans ran out!

Hannah Brooke Photography – we stumbled across her profile on Instagram because she had taken doorstep photos of some of our friends during the first lockdown. We really liked her style, so we asked her if she could tailor a package towards our small lockdown wedding.
Flowers were from InBloom.co – this is my cousin’s new business and she specialises in fresh and dried flowers. I chose dried so I could keep them longer.

Exchanging vows – I remember panicking that I wouldn’t remember it all, but thankfully it was just a few words at a time.
And having our photos taken – we’re both quite camera shy so we felt really nervous about it but we actually really enjoyed it. It was just the two of us and our photographer and she made it fun. We walked around York, which was much quieter than usual.
My favourite photos are the one in the doorway of York Minster (we wouldn’t have got that if it had been open), the one of us kissing on the shambles, and the family picture where we eventually got our little boy to smile.
Don’t stress about anything on the day – there’s nothing you can do at that point about the weather, things not quite running to plan or if the kids play up.
It’s your only chance to enjoy your big day so just soak it all up. Also, do what feels right for you and don’t worry about trying to please everyone else!
