Magical & Dreamy Little Tey Barn Wedding with Fairy Lights

What a treat it is to be sharing WWW readers Jamie and Rebecca’s Little Tey Barn wedding in Essex. Their day was totally dreamy and magical, with fairy lights, flowers and greenery throughout. From the elegant handwritten signs to the personal date table names, their day was beautiful from beginning to end.

Little Tey Barn Wedding

The Proposal

It was Christmas morning 2019. We had moved into our new house a week previous and our two young sons were opening their presents. Jamie handed me a gift-wrapped shoebox.

I opened the first box, to reveal a smaller box, and then another smaller box until I got to the ring box. I didn’t expect it at all.

We had been together 16 years by that time. I turned round in shock and Jamie was on one knee. He then asked me to marry him to which I cried and said yes. My perfect proposal, no-frills, fireworks or audiences. In our new home, just us and our babies.

The Vision

I envisioned a magical dreamy vibe. My brief to Starry Eyed Weddings was fairy lights and flowers, the more the better!

We didn’t want a traditional, formal setting – it’s just not us. We had been together a long time and built a wonderful life already. This was more of a celebration of that, a relaxed setting for everyone to have some gorgeous food and drink and be together.

Your Outfits

My dress was a bit of a difficult one. I knew what I wanted in my head, but when we visited high street bridal stores, although they had beautiful dresses, I didn’t get that buzz, something was missing, or all elements that I really wanted didn’t appear in the one dress.

Hayley from Starry Eyed Weddings then recommended a bridal designer called Suzanne Harrington. As soon as I walked into Suzanne’s shop, it was exactly the look and feel I had been searching for – soft, beautiful materials, both modern and vintage laces and in all different shapes.

She helped me design and make a dress that was perfect for me. I couldn’t recommend Suzanne enough, she was patient, kind, helpful and suggested things that I would never have thought about. I ended up wearing my dream dress which had a more modern, delicately sequined lace with soft tulle and a cap sleeve.

Jamie was looking for a navy checked three-piece suit. After trying on both plain and checked suits from a wide range of suppliers, he chose his suit from Reiss and had it tailored by Bespoke & Tailoring. Shirt – Charles Tyrwhitt.

The Honeymoon

We stayed at Sopwell House as a minimoon a few days after the wedding, but we have booked to go to Santorini in June this year due to the pandemic.

Memorable Moments

There are so many, but some of my favourites were seeing my dad’s and bridesmaid’s reactions to seeing me in my dress for the first time.
Both Jamie and I holding each other’s hands so tightly as we said our vows, we were both nervous, but I remember thinking how handsome he and our sons looked in their suits.
Halfway through our first dance, our two sons joined us and we danced the rest of the song as a 4.
I just remember looking around in the barn during the party and every single person was smiling, laughing and having a really good time – and that was what we wanted from the beginning.

Advice For Other Couples

Stick to what you and your partner want – don’t let anyone influence your day unless you want them to.

A big thing for me is that you must trust your suppliers implicitly to do their job – for me, choosing suppliers that I felt really cared about their job and our day was so important. It took pressure and stress away from Jamie and I.
