Get ready to feast your eyes on this gorgeous Ashridge Great Barn wedding ideas shoot. Brought to us by Rockrose Photography and Rebecca Wedding Hair, it’s an absolute delight!
Think sunshine woodland portraits, warm orange tones, dried flowers galore and a rustic barn setting. I adore the cool boho-style outfits, the stunning cake with a dried flower hoop and the really relaxed vibes all around.
What a treat! Enjoy it all.

Here in Devon we are absolutely spoilt for choice when it comes to wedding venues and there are so many different styles to suit everybody’s vision. So it really wasn’t difficult picking out the venue that I wanted to use for my photo shoot.
Ashridge Great Barn is rustic, show-stopping and tranquil in its surroundings and Kat could not have been more welcoming and hospitable when I approached her with my idea. I was overjoyed when she said she was happy for me to use Ashridge for my location as I have walked past this place since I was a child, when it was just an old barn, and the love and care they have put back into restoring it is truly magical!

Without sounding corny, I have loved weddings for as long as I can remember and now nearly 7 years in I wanted to take it all a little further, which is why I decided to put together this photo shoot to capture my ideas. This year I am going to be adding another string to my bow and offering an “elopement package” to couples who may have smaller numbers and smaller needs from their suppliers.

I have always wanted to play around with styling, as well as the hair and make-up, so it seemed quite fitting to be able to combine the two. I have never created or worked on a styled photo shoot before, so it was all very new to me. But the design and style came to me very quickly.

I set about making all the dried flower pieces and created and supplied all the elements to the “sweetheart” table myself. I felt it needed a pop of colour with the candles but the centre pieces needed to be a bit more neutral so it wasn’t too busy.

Every floral element you see in the photos are made of dried flowers, even the bouquet, which I know people are still, sadly, a little put off by. But it is the perfect memento of your wedding day as long as you store them correctly. If you like a more neutral approach then dried flowers create that look effortlessly!
But also if your palette and taste is a little more colourful then, my word you are spoilt for choice. I am hoping to be able to open up a whole conversation with my couples on the sort of ideas they have for their table decorations or just simply their bouquets, so that they can have a little more input and say on what they like, a bit more of a bespoke service I guess.
Getting to know a couple a little more before their big day feels quite important to me, especially when you are supplying something and being a part of one of the biggest days of their life so far.

For the lovely lady looking for a beautiful dress, then look no further, the wonderful Marian and her team at Pirouette come highly recommended. Not only was I lucky enough to have them take care of me for my wedding dress (and boy did they take care of me well) but they have since supplied me with dresses for two photo shoots and I really couldn’t appreciate their support more.
The building is called “the house that moved” and it is such a quirky, historic building to search for the dress’. The team see many, many brides on a regular basis but they still managed to make me feel so special and they shared my excitement too! You have to go and check them out, their collection of Maggie Sottero and Rebecca Ingram just to name a few, are heavenly.

Jessica and James are the pinnacle of a “model couple” and they are in fact husband and wife which makes it even more romantic and intensely passionate, exactly what you want when you are portraying a couple in love.
My brief to them was, be passionate, in love and have as much fun as you like. Just like you would be on your own wedding day! This is why I love smaller more intimate weddings because you have the opportunity and time for that love to shine through and even with smaller numbers you can still have so much fun!
It’s the other people involved, witnesses, celebrants and people like myself who truly want you to be the centre of attention on your day, so it makes it so much more special for you!

And lastly, I knew exactly who I needed to ask to do the photos, as her vision and style would bring it all together. Jules is so talented in capturing those moments that possibly no one else sees, she is passionate about what she does and takes the time to get it right.
She is a very warm person, she makes you feel comfortable, like you have known her for years! I have worked with her before doing the hair and make-up for a bride, and the normal comment from the bride is….“We don’t like having our picture taken, it doesn’t come natural to us, but Jules makes it ok.”

I was speechless when I saw the photos, she had absolutely smashed it and captured everything exactly as I had it in my head. My work was done but she then had to go through all the photos to pick the best shots and hasn’t she done well? I am blown away by everyone’s enthusiasm and generosity for this shoot and I now can’t wait to share it with you all!

How very gorgeous!
