Welcome to the gorgeous The Barn 1906 wedding of Cheryl and Chris in Canada. Oh, I do love a barn wedding and this wedding really is one of dreams. With stunning rustic decor, hints of powder blue and an abundance of greenery. Just wait and see the magical and characterful venue for their reception. It’s breathtaking.
Then there were the stylish outfits all-around, twinkling lighting come evening and so many fun moments filled with beaming smiles. Big thanks to Tied Photo & Film for sharing these incredible shots of such a fun day.

Chris and I technically met back when we were in public school, as I was best friends with his cousins. With Chris being 4 years older than myself, we never really got to know each other as 4 years was a big age difference being so young. Years went by and one summer his cousins invited me to a cottage weekend.
At this time, I was in university and it had been many years since I had seen Chris. Chris happened to be at the cottage as well and we got talking, catching up on what’s been going on in our lives over the years. We suddenly realized the age difference didn’t matter anymore and we had a lot in common. I eventually had to break it to his cousins that I was dating Chris, luckily, they were thrilled.
Chris and I enjoyed summer weekends at our friend’s cottage in Sudbury, a very quiet lake that is absolutely beautiful. July 1, Canada Day, we were there with a couple of our very close friends and Chris asked if he wanted to go out in the canoe together. Chris and I were touring around the lake, not a person or boat in sight for miles. He said let’s stop over here and go take a look at the amazing view from this island.
We got out of the canoe and were looking out at this remarkable view when suddenly Chris was down on one knee with a ring in his hand. The crazy part was Chris had brought the ring to this spot earlier that morning and left it there all day. Luckily the spot has probably not been seen by another person for years, so there was no worry of anyone taking the ring, but it definitely was a risk he took. I also have never been so surprised in my life. The most amazing proposal that I never expected. When we got back to the cottage with all our friends, they also didn’t know Chris was planning this, so it was a big surprise for all. The best Canada Day that I will never forget.
When we started looking into venues, a lot were booked up for the summer we wanted to get married. We had been to a wedding the previous summer at The Barn 1906 and both Chris and I said that was our favourite wedding we had ever been to; the character was exactly what we wanted.
At the time, the Barn 1906 was still new, and I thought they were only letting friends book the venue. The barn finally created an account on wedding wire and one day I happened to come across their page. I got very excited that they were accepting bookings for the summer we were looking to get married. When we met the owners on-site, they had Saturday, Aug 17 available which happened to be our anniversary. That was when I knew this venue was meant to be and we were so happy because the venue was perfect for us.
Blue has always been my favourite colour. I knew I wanted a very specific blue for the bridesmaid dresses which I finally found at Dessy Group the colour called Larkspur. I also was able to get table linen that looked very similar to the dresses to continue with the blue colour I wanted. I then added greenery, silver, white and grey to complement the blue colour dresses and table linens.

I didn’t actually know this was the dress I wanted until I tried it on. I knew I wanted fitted and comfortable. We had gone to a couple of different stores that day and the last place I had a good feeling about. I trying on a couple of the dresses that I thought I wanted but then I finally asked the woman working with me to bring something she thinks I should try and that’s when I tried on my dress and fell in love! It was all lace, which I didn’t know I would like and it was VERY comfortable. I purchased it that day with all my bridesmaids with me. Such a fun experience.

The morning of our wedding we woke up with rain, which they say is good luck on your wedding day, so I didn’t mind (so long that it stopped for the ceremony). It was raining a lot but by about noon it started to clear up just in time for some photos to be taken outside.
We then headed to the venue which had no rain and it looked like we were going to be able to have the ceremony outside. About 5 min before I walked down the aisle, all our phones went off with a tornado warning in the area. I looked at Ally, my amazing wedding planner, and said “well we might have to make this quick because I’m not moving this inside right now.” Somehow, that storm never came to us, it sounded like it went completely around us, everywhere else surrounding us had hail and crazy wind/rain. We didn’t get a drop of rain the entire evening. It was absolutely perfect.
I don’t really have a favourite part of the day, I am so happy with how smooth everything went. I was completely stress-free and I have my wedding planner to thank for that. I loved having all my friends and family there to celebrate our special day with.
The one thing I can say I will never forget is our first dance was a slow version I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) by Sleeping At Last. About halfway through the song we told our wedding party the song is going to turn to the original version of the song by the Proclaimers so be ready to dance with us. When that part came on, I have never seen a dance party start so quickly and be so fun. The barn floor was moving from everyone dancing. The wedding venue owner said the next day, she has never had that happen before. We really had the best dance party to finish the day off.
If I had any advice, it would be to hire a day-of wedding planner so you don’t have to worry about anything and can really enjoy the day. Take in every moment because the day/night flies by. Make sure to enjoy the day with your now husband. Don’t stress if something doesn’t go as planned, most likely you’re the only one who will know it. Have fun!
