Those balmy late summer evenings; sun setting, golden light and twinkling lighting, make for the perfect wedding reception party. And so these dark bohemian wedding ideas really do bring the essence of heady summer nights. You are going to love all of the boho touches, including pampas grass, fedora hat, natural textures and cool attire to name a few. With a tablescape of dreams as well as a cool outdoor seating area to boot.
Do keep your eyes peeled for alternative wedding stationery, a striking cake creation as well as stunning hair and makeup. The black and burnt orange colour palette works so so well too. Oh my.
A massive thanks go to YTZ Weddings and Minnie Sprinkles for sharing these dreamy images with us.

Quirky & darkly bohemian wedding shoot at Odo’s Barn. The inspiration for this shoot was darkly bohemian, quirky, and free-spirited. Minnie Sprinkles, stylist, planner, and stationery designer made sure this thread ran through every creative and styling consideration. From shooting at the golden hour to the stationery featuring dark florals and vintage steampunk charms to the wonderful matt black wedding cake by Karen at Iced Image Cakes and giant glitter balls, the theme of the wedding was alternative and edgy.
The colour palette was rich and autumnal with burnt orange, black, and neutral tones. We carefully considered silhouettes and textures that capture the light at this golden hour when the end of the summer sun was low and striking. Yulia’s photographic signature style was perfect to capture the couple at sunset, she effortlessly uses light in her images to create dramatic yet subtle scenes. Her natural, relaxed, and intimate style of photography, and talent for visual storytelling really does leave you with an abundance of memories you’ll never forget. Along with Charli May who captured a beautiful love story on video. Odo’s Barn was the perfect backdrop to bring this all to life. With its original rustic charm, its own moat, and breathtaking views of the Romney Marsh.

The lounge area was filled with texture and mixed metallics, a place created for watching the sunset. Hire Love loaned us giant mirror balls to give the area an eclectic, fun feel, a low copper beveled coffee table, Moroccan poufs, a rattan rug, and a stunning deep mustard velvet sofa. The quirkiness coupled with style and comfort, was the perfect place to experience sundown with your favourite person. The ceremony backdrop created a magical vibe with a large copper arch dressed in dried natural florals set against the fairy lights and textured rustic walls of the barn. The golden hues, jewels of light created a wonderful ambiance fitting with the atmosphere of the ‘golden hour’.
The florals really worked to bring the vision to life, with so many tones and textures. Bohotanical created some beautiful arrangements for the tables and entwined them within the various props. Gwenda’s signature style is somewhat eclectic and bohemian so she was the perfect choice for this concept, she used dried flowers and a neutral colour palette with accents of black to create subtle textures and just the right amount of edginess. The intimate dinner table was dressed with ornate brass candle holders, with elegant, long tapered candles, we used a burnt orange washed linen weave with double-stitched edges for the table runner, matt black ceramic plates, and clear beveled glass goblets. Dried floral arrangements featured in delicate black coloured vases.

The bride wore a stunning vintage styled wedding dress from Indiebride. It’s made of delicate cream-coloured lace with a small floral pattern. It has a loose-fitting top and a straight skirt worn with a sash tied around the waist. She teamed it with glittery DM’s. The perfect mix of quirkiness and elegance. Bohotanical’s floral-filled Fedora hat worn by our bride completed the bohemian, quirky look. The groom wore a burgundy slim fitted suit with a Liberty tie and bespoke braces on loan from Suits to Suit.
Aston our HAMU created a beautiful natural look for our bride. “I love my brides to feel comfortable and confident,” she says. “Skin should look and feel like skin like you are just the best version of yourself.” In line with the shoot’s eco-friendly focus, Aston used all vegan and cruelty-free skincare and makeup products and brands, such as Charlotte Tilbury, Hourglass Cosmetics, Arbonne, and Weleda. She also used eco-friendly and reusable tools such as reusable bamboo cotton pads and lash brushes that can be disinfected for reuse.
Minnie Sprinkles stationery designs featured dark florals illustrations entwined with skulls and gold leaf painted menus. Each setting had a handmade table name using recycled card and upcycled vintage steampunk charms. Every touchpoint of the day had a nod to individuality and character and our bohemian inspiration.
