Dunwood Hall Estate Wedding Inspiration

When planning this shoot, I had one strong brief in mind: Young, unruly royals with a dark autumnal edge, semi-sacrilegious references, champagne by the pool and decadent dining.

Straight away the location was an easy choice.

Dunwood Hall is a gothic manor house in Leek, passed down in family to the current owners Brodie and Erika, who are determined to keep its rich history alive while simultaneously injecting lots of modernity, like modern portraits and neon signs.

There are so many hidden (and totally-in-your-face) gems at this venue, such as the twisted stone gargoyles overlooking the grand entrance, the original tiled flooring and stained glassed windows in the hall. The staircase, the outdoor pool and secret fairy glen, as well as the large rose gardens. A perfect place to party like an Emperor and Empress.

“The Great” TV programme was a big influence when styling this photoshoot, but also medieval art, 90s perfume adverts and religious iconography.

I wanted to show what a big old gothic manor house would be like when the young ones take over. Sinfully lavish dinner parties followed by dancing with champagne around the pool before jumping straight in.

We even moved the grand living room furniture outside so they could enjoy the weather while texting their guests about that night’s impending (and no doubt debauched) festivities.

We start the shoot with an ethereal pale pink dress with an audacious golden crown and classic full tuxedo. As the day rolls along the bride changes into 3 more dresses and the groom’s tux is abandoned.

The first bride change is into a party gown with contrasting black boots for the champagne party, then a frilly-shouldered tight dress as they drunkenly stumble into some paparazzi, finishing in a maroon velvet gown that she purposefully ruins by diving into the pool.

This shoot was one of the longest and demanding shoots I have ever put together; the amazing team of suppliers worked tirelessly, from early morning until dark, to create each vision perfectly from the very specific (and, quite frankly, demanding) brief I put together.

A styled shoot is, after all, absolutely nothing without all of the beautiful people who make my strange ideas a reality.

With this very ambitious shoot we wanted to showcase a different side to the wedding industry that may not be everyone’s cup of tea (or glass of champagne). In this current time of uncertainty, we discovered that it’s incredibly cathartic to just go completely wild.
