At the heart of the shoot was a sustainable ethos, which also was considerate of staying within a wedding budget. The results were epic. I adore the retro vintage wedding cake, the whimsical flowers, the outfits and of course the pretty accessories.

Marie Antoinette Wedding Inspiration

Let them eat cake, in this economy? We wanted to assure couples that they can absolutely create an utterly dreamy and meaningful celebration by keeping it small, local and sustainable.

And what better way to illustrate this than with decadent Marie Antoinette stylings?

Our incredible team of local indie suppliers, who create with the planet in mind, put together an editorial-style shoot designed to inspire. Fun and fashion were the focus, with cake, cocktails and inspiring bridal looks.

Think Versailles meets Bridgerton meets a Gen Z house party.

Georgian country house Kingston Maurward in Dorset was the perfect setting for this royalcore knees-up. The breathtaking period details and beautiful grounds (including a Mr Darcy-worthy lake) elevated the whole scene and made the artisan details sing.

The venue even created rose-coloured cocktails for toasting.

Half the fun of a party is getting ready, so our girls had pink cocktails in hand while kitted out in pieces from sustainable fashion and lingerie brand Veronica Velveteen.

Exquisite signage, tags and invitations by Scribe Stationery, featuring their signature calligraphy, carried the lavish Versailles theme through.

Gerastan Bakehouse’s Marie Antoinette cake is a maximalist dream, expertly iced with kitschy piping and cheeky detail. It stood out as a centrepiece, flanked by MVwaxworX’s artisan vegan candles in matching pastels. And the macaron tower was a must for French court vibes.

The three models – slow fashion content creators Poppyella Oakey and Liz Kombate and Meggie from Gerastan Bakehouse – were glammed up with hair and make-up by Amazing Face Dorset. The beauty vibe was modern colour and party shimmer with a nod a Georgian style. Flower-studded hair piled high added regal feminine oomph.

A maximalist approach with integrity felt like the proper way to rebel against austerity, and Alyce Jayne Bridal’s frothy tulle gown and separates struck the right chord. She supplied three looks, balancing softness and structure and wow-factor silhouettes worthy of 18th-century court.

The looks were completed with beautiful contemporary veils by W Collective and one-of-a-kind accessories by To Be Adorned. Crochet chokers and garters added luxe colour and texture, and the jewellery is made with up-cycled beads and charms from vintage jewellery.

Fresh blooms bring a celebration to life, and Heartbee Flowers’ florals tied everything together with wild shapes and graceful energy. Bouquets and arrangements were all plastic-free and created using exclusively locally grown British flowers from their own farm and nearby Norton Flower Farm.
