A very warm welcome to Babette and Pete today who are sharing with us their divine Harewood Forest Wedding in Hampshire. They had a super relaxed, fun and colourful celebration in the heart of the woods.

There is so much to love about their day; the dried flowers, the colourful rag bunting, the stylish outfits and of course, the huge smiles all day long. One of the moments which looked so amazing has to be the moment Babette and Pete got up on stage to perform for their guests, and I just love their song choices.

Thanks ever so much to Clearly Wild Photography for kindly sharing with us these sensational images of one very magical wedding in the forest.

The Proposal

My husband got offered a position in Italy shortly after Brexit. As such, I could only be added to his VISA if we got married. After a chat with the immigration lawyers, Pete came into the bedroom where I was napping with an ear infection!

He dragged me into the lounge, got down on one knee, and produced the most beautiful ring that he’d been saving for months. I cried, said yes, and called my family and friends.

The Vision

I just desperately wanted to frolic through the woods. I imagined A Midsummer Night’s Dream, full of colour and life.

The Ceremony & Music

Our ceremony was pretty short as we had had our legal ceremony previously. I walked down the aisle to an instrumental guitar piece that my husband wrote and recorded. Our mothers each read a poem of their choosing, and we read our own vows before we walked out to Bombay Bicycle Clubs – Always Like This.

For cocktail hour our friend Harrison Wyatt performed a set, followed by my husband and I singing a few songs. Then the incredible The Sweet And Lowdown did 90 minutes pop, funk and soul songs – the dance floor was always full! They also played for our first dance which was to Home by Edward Sharpe And The Magnetic Zeros.

Budget

As cheap as possible! It didn’t quite stay that way…

Your Outfits

My dress was Maggie Sottero from the incredible team at Creatiques Boutique in Southsea. It was the opposite of what I thought I wanted! Quite a classic princess look with a modern twist that I felt so incredible in.

Our colour palette was rust, burnt oranges, jewel tones so the boys were in a teal/blue suit with orange and brown accents.

Your Photographer & Filmmaker

We didn’t have a videographer but the wonderful Katie Winter of Clearly Wild Photography captured the day in the most beautiful way for us.

The Styling & Decor

All of the décor was either homemade or Etsy! I planned the wedding from Oz so my maid of honour became my postbox and I had to order everything online!

The Honeymoon

We are planning a bit trip to Japan for a belated honeymoon, but we are lucky enough to have moved to Sydney just before the wedding so we’ve also been enjoying our new city.

Memorable Moments

The speeches were so beautiful, my dad made me weep. Then at the end of the evening, we spent a couple of hours singing in the campsite before bed, it was so lovely to spend some quality time with people at the end of a manic day.

Advice For Other Couples

Try your best to enjoy the process. It’s intense and can be stressful but the whole day goes so quickly, make sure you stop to take stock along the way.
