Hi Anna! Firstly could you tell Whimsical Wonderland Weddings a little bit about yourself?
I’m a photographer currently based in Birmingham but about to move back up to Manchester – VERY excited about this! Other than my family and friends (including my gorgeous cheeky-faced little boy Joe and my lurvely husband Chris), things I love the best are our daft greyhound Freddie, photography (of course!) flip flops, tattoos, crosswords, large and gaudy jewellery, pool and snooker, tickling, earl grey tea, reading in bed, snowboarding, laminating things, hammocks, red wine and strong cheese. To summarise, I’d probably have to say: enthusiastic, adventurous, idealistic and hopelessly romantic camera-freak, stationery-geek, obsessive-list-maker and greedy-food-lover!
How did you get into photography and start shooting weddings?
I didn’t train in photography, I used to be a secondary school teacher, which I loved. I bought my first SLR while I was backpacking in Nepal and was HOOKED! It rarely left my face for the whole time I was travelling and still didn’t when I got home. When people kept suggesting I should do it for a living, I went for it. I’d completely fallen in love with it and didn’t want to regret never even giving it a go, and I’ve never looked back. Weddings are so much fun and I really love the energy, emotion and drama, so it was a bit of a no-brainer to start photographing them.
What do you aim to achieve for your clients on their big day?
Hassle-free, fun photography on the day itself, then giving them pictures that make them squeal with excitement, laugh and feel giddy every time they look at them!
What style is your wedding photography?
Vibrant, natural and energetic – I try to capture real personality, atmosphere and character. To me a lot of wedding photography is about being able to anticipate when something wonderful is going to happen, and making sure you grab it when it does. Often these wonderful things are the smallest things, like a facial expression, a touch, a belly laugh or even a dance move, but these are the times where people’s characters shine through.
Can you tell us about your wedding packages?
I always stay all day, start as early as you like, finish as late as you like, you’re the boss! I offer two main packages – the album package for couples who want the digital files and a gorgeous bespoke album, and a digital files only package for creative couples who want to design their own album and prints.
Do you have any tips for couples in selecting a wedding photographer and any advice for their big day?Picking a photographer: read blogs as well as looking at portfolios – you’ll be able to see all their current stuff and also get a feel for their approach and personality. Make sure you meet them and pick people who you actually really like as a person as well as liking their pictures, it’s no good having an amazing photographer if you just aren’t going to feel comfortable around them
. On the big day itself: you don’t need any tips. However amazing you think it’s going to be, it’ll be a million times better.
