Good Vibes Industrial Spring Wedding & A Show-Stopping Party

Buckle in, you’re about to be left spellbound by Jamie and Seb’s epic industrial Spring wedding, held at The West Mill in Derbyshire.

Their wedding vision was all about “good vibes, great food, one hell of a party” and that’s a concept I’m fully on board for. From the stylish attire to the cool red and pink colour scheme and the DIY decor, you’re in for such a feast for the eyes. Standout moments include the two confetti moments, the dancefloor action and the gorgeous portraits within the venue grounds. Wow.

Industrial Spring Wedding

The Proposal

The proposal came under the guise of a birthday weekend away in Sandwich for Jamie’s 30th.

We went for a walk to the beach with the gang in tow. I had a couple of insiders in our group so with their help we managed to convince the rest of the group to head back to the house early to “decorate the house for Jamie’s birthday”.

I got down on one knee and had a mini speech prepared though cannot remember a second of it as it’s just an adrenaline-filled blur now (I think Jamie said yes!). We then strolled back to a pub in Sandwich where I’d booked a table with a bottle of champagne waiting so we could FaceTime all our family and friends.

We headed back to the house where Jamie was able to surprise our friends after they surprised her with a wonderfully decorated house! We then partied into the night for a combined birthday/engagement party.

I tried the dress on a whim, it was completely different to what I had envisioned. As soon as I put it on I knew it was the one! It was so comfortable and unrestricted, great for after dinner and popping some shapes on the d floor!

I added more intricate details through embellished shoes and a pearl veil. My aunt lent me pearl earrings (to tie with the pearls on my veil) and a silver six-pence for my something borrowed.

My hair and makeup were more than I could have dreamt of – I went for a low bun, to show the back detail on my dress, and to stop me messing with it throughout the day! My makeup was glam, but not too glam!

Groom

I wanted to go black tie for myself and the groomsmen as I think it’s such a classic look for a wedding. My suit was from Moss with a shawl lapel and a classic black tie (tied alongside my go-to YouTube tutorial). I wore a waistcoat and dress shirt from Hawes and Curtis and my watch that was a gift from Jamie (and hasn’t worked since 2019).

I wanted to stand out from the groomsmen only slightly so they wore a peak lapel jacket and were sans waistcoats.

The Ceremony & Music

Taking place on the ceremony floor of the West Mill, with stunning views over the river and weir.

We had live music throughout, making use of the house baby grand piano.

I walked down the aisle to ‘Here Comes The Sun’ by the Beatles, we had two readings, ‘You Are The Bubbles’ by Rachel Bright and ‘The Giraffe And The Monkey’ by Daniel Thomas. We didn’t want a soppy reading or one that was too religious and traditional. We signed the wedding register to ‘Lean On Me’ by Bill Withers.

We walked down the aisle as husband and wife to ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered’ by Stevie Wonder. The music by The Burgundy’s was the most perfect backdrop to the start of our married life!

We had a live band during our drinks reception and into the evening. They were amazing, even learning our first dance ‘Baby I’m Yours’ by the Arctic Monkeys. This was a perfect addition to our day and we couldn’t imagine our wedding without the band – they brought all the vibes!

Oh goodness, where do we start? Mirlah was AMAZING we still can’t put into words how incredibly talented this lady is. We are beyond blessed with the way in which she has captured our day.

Mirlah’s style shone out to us so much. Right from our first zoom, we knew we needed to book her in quick!

Mirlah was brilliant on the day itself – helping with bouquets, taping the silver sixpence onto my shoe with some boob tape and rearranging my dress! She brought along the equally talented Lizzie McNeill who also helped capture the magic. They were both treasured guests to us rather than just our ‘photographers’.

They made us feel so at ease, which I think really helped us to be ourselves and have fun in front of the camera. I think this really shows in our shots and also by our impromptu Spice Girls sing-off, we definitely put the boys to shame!

The Styling & Decor

Our wedding was completely DIY with the help of our wonderful florist and the West Mill Team.

Our wedding breakfast tables featured bud jars with the same bright florals in our bouquets, tea light holders and pink candle sticks. We repurposed our ceremony floor arrangements in the welcome area and wedding breakfast floor. I hand-wrote name places and added some brightly coloured ribbon to jazz things up a little.

Our signage was done by the super talented Oska_graphics, who doesn’t normally specialise in wedding signage but as he’s our brother-in-law he decided he would.

We wanted signage that we could repurpose, that wouldn’t end up in the bin after the day had ended. We now have lots of our signage up on our walls, including our gin bar sign with the special family recipe for the perfect gin ton, a ‘what’s cookin’ good lookin’ in our kitchen amongst others. Each day we get a little reminder of our special day.

We didn’t do favours as we wanted to keep costs down, instead, we gave each table a couple’s crossword to keep them busy and in some instances break the ice! It went down a treat and we had so many compliments, it was a very funny read the next day to see quite the range of answers!

We kept our cake small and simple as we knew not everyone would have a slice. We opted for a white chocolate and raspberry sponge. We requested some additional florals from our florist and my bridesmaids arranged them on the cake in the morning.

We had a retro photo booth and audio guest book and wow, are we so glad we went for both! They were insane!! We were crying with laughter at some of the messages left, highly recommend for the giggles but also a forever memory of special spoken messages from close family and friends.

We love a boogie so we wanted everyone to party hard on the dancefloor! We provided foam glow sticks and brightly coloured love heart sunglasses – these went down SO well and the dancefloor was packed all night!

The Honeymoon

Something a little different, a tour around Scotland and the highlands! We’re not ones for lounging on a beach in the sun so we’re super excited to explore what’s basically on our doorstep!

Memorable Moments

Confetti whirlwind, couple canapés and champagne after tying the knot, and the best dancefloor yet.

Advice For Other Couples

Do what feels right for you, even if it means going against what is ‘traditional’. Don’t worry about what others will think, it’s your day and should be special for you. If it is, then it will be special to others.
