Minimal Botanical Copper & Greenery Wedding

Now here is a wedding where style certainly meets substance. Not to mention featuring all the trends of the moment. You’re going to love it all folks.

WWW readers Jenifer and Fergus were hitched on the 29^th October 2016 in a beautiful church ceremony followed by an intimate celebration for 20 guests at Wonwood Barton in Devon. At the heart of their wedding planning was creating an informal, relaxed atmosphere and serving good quality seasonal cuisine. Hello Michelin star chef! The food looked incredible, not to mention the drinks on offer too. Then it was all about the gorgeous styling.

Botanical and greenery elements were used throughout in the outstanding flower arrangements. Succulents, air plants and foliage were all used and the results were show stopping, from the divine bouquets and ceiling swags above the dinner table to the sweet potted succulent favours. They also inter-weaved copper and rose gold touches for a touch of glam and a nod to Jenifer’s engagement ring. Festoon lights, a buttercream cake and quirky transport completed the whole look.

Then there were the gorgeous outfits. Jenifer chose the elegant Bryony by Sassi Holford with it’s uber cool deep pockets and also wore mint pumps, which worked perfectly. Fergus opted for a slim fit suit which was embossed with initials and the date of their wedding, such a lovely touch.

THE PROPOSAL | 25^th December 2015 – at Jeni’s family home on Christmas day. Fergus had bought me some earrings I had eyed up in a high street store (Whistles) and popped the ring into the earring bag so that when I emptied the earrings into my hand there was a ring also! Fergus got down on one knee and proposed with Jeni’s family all around.

THE VISION | Intimate, family wedding; botanical (lover of greenery and succulents); copper/rose gold (engagement ring rose gold also); very minimal, simplistic and sophisticated touches but with an informal and relaxed atmosphere. Autumnal weather and colours of nature chosen straight away. Good quality, seasonal food was a must.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We started with researching local venues around Devon to accommodate an intimate wedding of 20 people (not easy). We visited places but nothing gave us the spark until we found Wonwood Barton – a small B&B with a Roundhouse in the middle of a courtyard, perfect for our vision of having a delicious intimate meal with our families. All the other details were then planned to tie in with the venue, from the flowers, dress, suit, table accessories (we collected lots of different rose gold/copper candle holders); we always knew we wanted to marry in a church and we had lived in South Brent prior to the wedding (Jeni also teaches in the village school).

THE VENUE | St. Petroc’s Church, South Brent for the wedding ceremony; Wonwood Barton, Lamerton for reception.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | A very classic dress called ‘Bryony’ by Sassi Holford, Taunton; veil from Sassi also. Shoes called ‘Meurice’ from Chatelles (a light tonal green with rose gold trim and tassel); rose gold leaf vine hairpin from Etsy.

FINDING THE DRESS | Lots of research online to look at different styles; went dress shopping with both sisters and tried on styles I though I would go for (a sleek, figure-hugging, perhaps embellished dress) but soon realised I preferred the more simple classic dresses. I visited Sassi Holford in Taunton (on my own), still trying on a mix of styles and fell in love with Bryony. I went away, thinking about ‘her’ a lot so went back to try her on again and that was it… I had to have her.

GROOM’S ATTIRE | Bespoke 3-piece tailored slim-fit suit by Zebel, Exeter. Grey with a mochas coloured lining. Jacket embossed with initials and date of wedding. Shoes ‘Bertie’ by Dune.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | Entry of the bride: Discovery at Night, Ludovico Einaudi; Morning has Broken; Give me joy in my heart; Lord of the Dance’ Departure: Prince of Denmark’s March by Jeremiah Clarke.

The way I love, Corinthian 13 V1-8; These I can Promise, Mark Twain.

Evening music: Ukulective (a local folk band from South Brent).

THE HONEYMOON | Nothing yet (spending money on house) – we managed to get away for the night after the wedding to a lovely B&B in Somerset.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | Driving from the church in South Brent across the Moors to Lamerton in ‘Snowy’, the white 2CV we hired for the weekend from. It was just the two of us.

The outstandingly delicious 5-course taster menu prepared and served by Michelin star chef, and Master Chef The Professionals winner, Anton Pitrowski. He was head chef at The Treby Arms at the time of the wedding.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Do want YOU want, don’t try and please everyone else (you can’t). It’s your special day – embrace every moment!
