I happen to think the colours of autumn are just the best, do you agree? Let’s dive right into Liz and Sonado’s gorgeous fall New England wedding and see shall we?
Liz and Sonado were married on the 10th October 2020 at Briar Barn Inn in Massachusetts and what a glorious day they had despite COVID-19. They were married outdoors against a stunning flower arch before celebrating beneath festoon lighting around rustic wooden tables. Everything was kept simple, with the focus instead on celebrating the natural elements around them. Didn’t they both look amazing in their chosen attire too?

My husband and I were introduced through a mutual friend at a club in downtown Boston. Believe it or not, I knew the moment we met that one day we’d be married! Our connection was one-in-a-million, and a few months after meeting we began dating and never looked back. We took our time dating and enjoyed a long engagement, choosing to buy our home and settle in before officially tying the knot.
My husband proposed soon after I finished grad school (which I juggled while working full time). On our anniversary, I woke up to flowers and soon he was on one knee proposing. (I still don’t remember exactly what he said to this day, but I said yes). I loved that he proposed in the morning because we had the entire day to share the news with family and friends and celebrate! We capped off the day with a dinner at one of my favorite restaurants.
Due to covid, our wedding was an intimate affair, which was completely different from our original plans. But in the end, we could not be happier with our wedding celebration!
Our wedding ceremony and dinner were outside on a glorious autumn day. We were surrounded by a dozen family and close friends, who all contributed to pulling the event together in one way or another: my brother was my man of honor; my husband’s sister read a poem; my dad arrived early to help put together the wedding arbor; the cake baked by a family friend. Their help and personal touches made it even more special!

We put mother nature on display during our wedding. The beautiful fall scenery was our inspiration, and our décor merely aimed to accentuate the beauty of the turning leaves and long rays of sunshine. We used deep burgundies and navy blue, softened by pale blush and straw, to create a warm ambience. We kept floral décor light but did substitute framed photos from our travels for floral centerpieces. We encouraged our guests to take the photos home as another memento.
We used flowers to accentuate the beauty of mother nature, but not compete with her. I was most taken with the floral dressing on the wedding arbor (which my husband built). Together, they were the perfect background!
The focus of our wedding day was celebrating and spending time with our family and friends who went to great lengths to be with us. Rather than formal entertainment, we self-curated our playlist (and even spontaneously added songs from “Hamilton” for impromptu singalongs).
I wanted to feel confident and comfortable in my wedding dress. With that in mind, I chose a beautiful off-white A-line wedding dress that featured a short train. The satin fabric and crisp cut created a classic look, which I personalized with awesome Badgley Mischka heels and jewelry.

Plan a mini-moon a few days after the wedding. Wedding planning, especially in the final stages, is stressful and time-consuming. After the wedding, your adrenaline and anxiety subside, leaving you tired. Take a few days to get away, recharge and reflect on your special day!
