A very warm welcome today to Katie and Adam who are kindly sharing their beautiful back garden wedding, held in Katie’s mum’s garden. Their day was so personal, intimate and relaxed, with a timeless marquee space in a gorgeous garden setting nestled next to the canal. Wow!
They really stamped their personality on their day and also kept things super simple. For decoration, there were disco balls and pampas grass galore, there were shot favours and a delicious grazing table too. Yum.
There were some absolutely gorgeous outfits, as well as modern signs and some stunning portraits in the countryside. All in all, this was one very special day indeed.
Thanks ever so much to Emma McNair Photography for sharing with us these tremendous captures.

Adam proposed to me in a hot tub at Tattersall Lakes on my birthday!

We booked our wedding for September 2024 in a chateau in France and did a complete 360! I didn’t want to wait that long and we didn’t want to spend that kind of money. So we decided to do it in my mum’s garden to keep the cost down and make it more personal.
We have a lot of memories at my mum’s house and she had it up for sale at the time so we thought it would be the last party they had! We wanted an intimate wedding with our closest friends and family, then everyone else to join us at 5 pm for the party.

Adam’s budget £10 – mine £15,000 🤣

My mum’s garden in Mexborough, South Yorkshire!

I walked out with my stepdad Tony, then I met my dad at the bottom of the stairs and he walked me the rest of the way down the aisle. I’ve been with Tony since I was 6 so I couldn’t have imagined doing it without him.
I had my 3 sister-in-laws as bridesmaids, my 2 best friends and my sister and best friend as MOH. My daughter Honey and niece Daisy as flower girls and my son Alby and nephew Beau as page boys.
The music I walked down to was – Florence and the Machine – Stand By Me.
Song to walk back down the aisle to was – Kiss Me by Sixpence None The Richer.
First dance song – The Lumineers, Just Like Heaven.

My dress is Made With Love Bridal from The Aisle. I knew I wanted a MWL dress as all of their dresses are gorgeous. I’d been following them on Instagram for a while and I was obsessed! My headband was from Hannah’s Headwear (on insta) and the earrings were from Etsy.
I tried a few dresses on and I loved all the busy dresses but they just didn’t suit me, I knew I wanted something simple but was open to any style that suited me! This was the first one I tried on and I tried it on again and I knew it was the one.
Adam’s suit, we both wanted black as we really love that look and with my modern wedding dress knew it would go perfectly with the black.

We went for a disco ball and pampas theme, with festival lights for when it got dark.

We went for a disco ball, pampas theme. With pinks, purples and oranges etc. I left the flowers up to Elle, I picked the colours but left the rest to her so on the day it was a surprise. They were stunning!!
We didn’t do too much with decor as my mum’s garden speaks for itself, it’s on the canal with a lot of greenery.

Emma McNair – the best!!! She was amazing, such a good vibe and our pictures speak for themselves. She captured our day beautifully, just how it was chilled and such a nice vibe.
We asked Emma as she captures candid pictures and nothing posed as that is definitely not us! And she did just that.

We went to Ibiza – Cala San Vicente and stayed in the most beautiful hotel (El Somni, Ibiza dream hotel)! We went on our own, without the kids for three nights. Drank cocktails, napped, sunbathed and ate delicious food. It was bliss.

My favourite part was walking out and seeing everyone stood there waiting for me, it was nerve-wracking and exciting at the same time.
The speeches were the most memorable part. Adam’s brothers made us all laugh and the dads made us all cry. My best friend and MOH also did a speech from one of my Aussie friends who we met when we went travelling and that was the first time I really cried. It was very emotional.

One thing I would say is… just DO YOU. It doesn’t have to be traditional or what anyone else is doing, it can be whatever you want it to be. Sit-down meal, no sit-down meal, whoever you want it to be. Speeches, no speeches. It’s your day, your choice.

What an absolutely beautiful day!
Katie and Adam, I can’t thank you enough for sharing with us your super personal back garden wedding story.
