It’s such a treat to be sharing the utterly magical starry wedding of WWW readers Levi and Will today. Their wedding is a masterclass in fun times, DIY decor, thoughtful touches and creating a celestial atmosphere.

I adore the twinkling tipi set up, with fairy lights, stars and candles all around – so romantic! Then there were the stunning outfits, the epic moon backdrop and the fun sparkler exit. There are just SO many ideas and so much brilliant advice below, I urge you to take in every little detail.

Thanks so very much to Steven Haddock for sharing with us these tremendous images. Wow.

Levi and Will on WWW

I loved the vibes I got from WWW compared to other generic wedding blogs. I enjoyed the different types of weddings/themes I could find on WWW websites and articles, and it gave me so many ideas and thoughts for my own day!

The Proposal

Our proposal was definitely an interesting one! We both knew from very early on in our relationship that we wanted to get married and I pestered Will at every opportunity for a ring, especially when we began to get close to being together a year (he’d always said he wouldn’t propose before a year!).

So as the time crept closer, Will began acting suspicious, hiding his phone, obviously making secret plans, even revealing that I’d be getting a gift at some point in the near future! Through his slip-ups about the gift and its delivery, I worked out that I was finally getting my dream moonstone ring from a jeweller in Australia.

So the day eventually came around and we went to a wildlife park in Melbourne near London with my best friend and her family. I had seen the box in his pocket, I was nervous beyond belief as was he, and it all got a bit too much! Will was desperately trying to find a spot in the park that would work for his plan, and I was desperately hanging onto him, praying he wouldn’t get down onto one knee as I was just too nervous!!

He eventually chose his moment, pulling away from him and got down on one knee. It was at this exact point that I turned my back on him and walked away. Will proceeded to shout “OI COME BACK“. Will determined I couldn’t yet have my ring as he wanted to “do it properly”.

We later laughed and joked about the whole moment and when he finally asked, we were sat on a sofa in our AirBnB and he pulled out the ring box and said, “Do you want it now then?” to which I said “Yeah alright then.” and the rest is, as they say, history!

The Vision

I knew for a long time that I wanted my wedding to be reminiscent of being up in the stars. I had seen so many starry night/celestial-themed weddings but none of them quite hit the mark for what I wanted.

Me and Will sat down and discussed the colours we would want and how we would work it into our starry vision. We both wanted varying shades of purples, greys and silvers, with these being some of our favourite colours.

We wanted it to be mystical and fantastical, with both of us loving fantasy books and films. I wanted enough fairy lights throughout the venue that it looked like you were in space amongst the stars. I wanted it to also look natural, with wooden elements and purple florals.

Your Outfits

My dress was Stars Align (the perfect name) by Willowby by Watters. I spent a long time looking at dresses and when I came across Willowby, I was pretty certain they would be my designer. I loved almost every single dress in their collection and when I found the Stars Align dress, I instantly showed my mother-in-law (we lived with her) and said this is the one. Needless to say, she agreed!

We found a bridal store in Lincoln, my hometown, who actually happened to be having a trunk show of Willowby in the next few weeks and would have Stars Align in store for me to try! I tried many other dresses before, which I loved, but as soon as I put Stars Align on, I never wanted to take it off and I knew that was it. The dress came in two colours, sunbeam and misty violet, which of course I chose as it fit the whole day so well.

Will’s suits were actually from Next! We chose these as we knew we wanted grey and we also knew we wanted to pay for the suits for all of the groomsmen as a gift. These were both fantastic quality and a great price. The suits had a slight checked pattern to them, which Will loved as it gave a little something more than just a simple grey suit! I can’t provide a link as the suit doesn’t exist on the site anymore!

Your Photographer & Filmmaker

As with all our other vendors, we wanted a photographer and filmmaker that weren’t traditional and had done weddings similar to the vibes we wanted to have. We found Steven whilst searching for local photographers and whilst browsing his website, we saw that he had photographed some of our favourite bands, such as Blink-182 and All Time Low. This was a huge sway for us, alongside his documentary-style photography.

We loved the style he had and the way he captured so many special moments throughout days that wouldn’t normally be seen! When we first spoke to Steven, we found we were really similar people and it made it really easy for us to get on with him so well! We did a pre-wedding photoshoot with him the year before the wedding and it was so much fun and myself and Will both felt so relaxed, we were incredibly happy with our decision to choose him for our day.

We found Will Wood through Steven, we knew that by asking him, he would recommend someone both fantastic and who fit our vibe. And boy, did Will fit!! He was amazing from start to finish, made us both feel so comfortable from the first video call and had everyone laughing throughout the whole wedding. His work is phenomenal and our wedding video, alongside all the other clips we received, make us cry instantly. We couldn’t have asked for anyone better!

The Ceremony & Music

When we booked our venue, it was not licensed for legal ceremonies so we began looking into celebrants. I scoured many websites before falling onto the Humanist Celebrants site and finding the absolute joy that is Meg Senior. She was one of a few celebrants we found that stood out to us, but as soon as we read her bio, I knew without a doubt that she was the woman we needed!

When we first booked her, she made us feel right at ease and talked us through the whole process. Meg very quickly began to feel like a friend and it was so easy to go through the planning with her at our sides! Not only did she write the most beautiful ceremony that truly represented us, but she also helped us (alongside her amazing hubby!) to build some of our wedding decor from scratch! It only got better as Meg then rebranded her website etc and it was filled with moons and stars! We knew we’d chosen the exact right celebrant <3

For our music, we wanted a DJ who wasn’t going to play the typical wedding playlist, as we aren’t fans of typical pop music. We are both fans of rock, pop-punk and emo music, think Foo Fighters, My Chemical Romance etc.

The Styling & Decor

As I said before, our theme was up in the stars, starry night, mystical starry garden with colours of purples, greys and silvers. This didn’t end up being quite as straightforward as I thought it would be!

We started with looking for fairy lights and how we could use these throughout our venue. Luckily, we were planning in the run-up to Christmas and every store was filled with varying lights! We managed to pick up lots of sets that were both star shaped and had stars throughout them.

When we first started planning, I wasn’t sure I wanted florals and I went back and forth on this a lot! I thought I didn’t want a bouquet as my dress had so much detail on already, I didn’t want to cover it up. I also was torn over florals due to a severe lack of purple flowers available within our budget! I didn’t want our venue to look bare but I didn’t want to spend possibly thousands getting it right.

We eventually found a huge range across both SHEIN and AliExpress, two sites I know people are torn over but worked wonders for our day. We bought around £300 of white, grey and purple florals which we used to decorate our venue, for my own bouquet and the bridesmaids and also the groomsmen’s pocket squares.

We originally planned to create table frames using plastic piping and the florals, but as things go, on setup day we decided the frames were massively distracting and changed our minds!! Thankfully, we had incredible friends who took all of our florals and put them all around the venue, creating the most amazing fantastical, fairy garden-esque vibe throughout the tipis.

I also had the vision of creating wooden moons and stars to be hung throughout the venue to add the starry night theme more. This was definitely a trial-by-error mission! We ended up creating a huge 8-foot-tall wooden moon (alongside two wooden arches), which was used as a photo backdrop and will be used in our home in the future! We also scrapped the wooden stars later down the line as they were also a challenge that proved too difficult!

For our table layout, I knew I wanted candles galore as well as table runners down the middle over full tablecloths. We bought copious amounts of muslin so we could get the colour we wanted, which resulted in a slightly tie-dye/watercolour effect!

We then bought the typical IKEA vases and candles and began making our vision come to life across the dining table. It needed a little more so I delved into the witchy/mystical aspect of the theme and added crystals and even more fairy lights!

For our place names, I reverse-created galaxy painting on acrylic discs and added names using my Cricut, simple but incredibly effective! I continued using my Cricut for the rest of the stationery and signage, putting vinyl onto mirrors, acrylic and paper! I painted a huge crescent moon onto a mirror and added vinyl to create the table plan and my incredible husband drilled hundreds of holes into acrylic to create constellations (using vinyl and string lights) for the table names.

We also hired a photo booth and fully stocked sweetie cart.

The Honeymoon

The honeymoon is an interesting one to say the least! We are both avid travellers and discussed throughout our whole relationship how much we wanted to travel as much of the world as we could.

We are fortunate enough to have lived with his mum throughout being together, which enabled us to save a huge amount of money. Both our families were also incredibly supportive of us saving all our pennies.

So with this in mind, we planned and began the most incredible honeymoon, starting in Thailand, moving through Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore and finally Australia, visiting our friends who were both groomsman and bridesmaid on our special day.

It’s been the most phenomenal honeymoon and an experience we are so glad and lucky to have done. We’ve enjoyed every second and we don’t plan on coming home for another year at least!!
