Ready for all the disco party vibes and epic streamer wedding decor? Great, me too! It’s time to share Andy and Eloise’s awesome modern and colourful disco wedding at The Venue Bowers Mill in Yorkshire.

Their day began with a traditional and meaningful church ceremony, before a good old knees up in the industrial mill reception venue. There were the coolest hanging streamers by Streamadelica adorning the ceiling, not to mention a super cool neon sign wedding backdrop.

You’re also going to adore all of the outfits, the blooming beautiful flowers and the megawatt smiles all day long. Wow!

A big thank you goes to Louise Barry Photographer for sharing these absolutely brilliant images with us.

The Proposal

We got engaged on the 7th November 2020. At the time, due to Covid, we were heading into lockdown meaning there was no opportunity to travel. Andy did not want to wait any longer to ask the question, so he chose a spot local to us. Only our parents and his best man knew about the plan, and after researching local beauty spots he chose Janet Foss waterfall in Malham.

It was a bright sunny, winters morning and after we left the waterfall and walked around a small wall, the moment felt right as only we were totally alone. Andy got down on one knee and it was just so perfect and intimate. We spent our first moments of being engaged taking in the scenery, embracing the moment, and sitting on cloud 9.

The Vision

We had two big visions for our day.

In the end, we decided to combine both visions! You could call it tradition with a twist. Our family and friends were so supportive and helpful in making these visions a reality, we couldn’t have done it without them.

The Venue

We had our wedding reception at ‘The Venue, Bowers Mill.’ On our first visit, we both instantly knew it was right for us. The building is surrounded by the gorgeous Yorkshire countryside with a lake that sits in front of the building, just the setting we were hoping for.

It is a restored textile mill which means it has lots of gorgeous industrial characteristics e.g. stripped wood floors, exposed brick and high ceilings with beams. The space is so atmospheric and unique meaning you could do no extra decor and it would look stunning on the day. It really sparked our imaginations.

We always wanted our wedding to be a BIG party, for all our family and friends so the spacious room was perfect. The venue also gave the option to partition the space with curtains, which helped the day flow seamlessly as the fantastic staff could set up the ‘evening space’ without us needing to move out of the room.

The venue also offered the option of a sharing board for the wedding breakfast. This was a fantastic and tasty alternative to a classic 3-course dinner. Guests loved the mix of hot and cold food, perfect for a hot day.

The Ceremony & Music

We had our ceremony at Crag Road Methodist Church in Shipley. It is a very small modest church situated at the top of a hill. My (Eloise’s) grandma and mother both got married there and I have grown up going to this church. It holds many happy memories, so the ceremony couldn’t have been anywhere else.

I walked down the aisle to the musical composition ‘trumpet voluntary.’

We had a traditional reading which was from Corinthians 13 and a more modern reading of the John Cooper Clarke poem ‘I Wanna Be Yours’. This was read beautifully by Andy’s grandad who channelled John Cooper Clarke himself, including the Manchester accent. The church was full to the brim with all our friends and family and filled with laughter and love. It is a very treasured memory.

Our first dance was to ‘Baby I’m yours’ By the Arctic Monkeys, followed immediately by ‘You’re The One That I Want’ from Grease.

We also had a brilliant band for our evening doo called The Alchemists, they do a vintage twist on modern songs and were great for getting the guests dancing. They also did a couple of special song requests, which was a lovely touch.

Your Outfits

Finding my dress was a challenge, as I was very open-minded so ended up feeling completely spoilt for choice! There are just so many beautiful dresses out there.

All I knew is I wanted my dress to be modern and unique. So I decided to visit the Bridal Emporium in Leeds, who have a gorgeous selection of modern dresses and such down-to-earth helpful staff. In the end, as cheesy as it sounds, the dress chose me. My dress is made by an English designer Freda Bennet I just fell in love with the dramatic ruffle hem and flower appliqués.

In fact, the dress inspired me to design a veil to match! I always knew I wanted a short but voluminous veil – inspired by Priscilla Presley. So I drew out my design and the talented seamstresses at The Bridal Emporium, turned my dream into a reality. The veil has matching flower appliqués and a detachable bow in fabric that matched the dress. Honestly, it made me feel very extra and very fabulous in the best way possible.

My shoes were from Office Shoes. Little sparkly block-heeled numbers. To make them more unique I bought some ‘I DO’ shoe clips from Whats Up Birdie, for an extra touch of kitsch glittery fun.

The bridesmaid dresses were the first purchase we made. They are ASOS own brand. I love the 50s style.

Andrew decided on a light blue tweed suit from Peter Posh for himself and his groomsmen. He always knew he wanted a tweed suit but needed it to be cool enough for a June wedding. To stand out from the groomsman Andrew chose a floral liberty London tie which complimented the colour scheme perfectly.

Peter Posh also supplied all of their shoes, which was convenient and ensured they all looked smart as a button.

A well-deserved mention should be given to Rich (@___tmmc___) who cut and styled Andrew’s hair making sure he was looking fresh on the day.

Your Photographer

We couldn’t have asked for a better photographer than Louise! We came across Louise on Instagram after searching for a wedding photographer that fit the relaxed fun vibe we wanted for our day. Louise absolutely nailed it! She is a gem!

In the lead-up to the wedding and on the day itself Louise was so helpful and made us feel completely at ease. She even went beyond the call of duty and helped transfer our flowers between the venues! We really can’t thank her enough.

Louise had such creative suggestions for pictures and has a great eye for detail. She has a knack for capturing pure joy and photographing those special little moments in such a natural way.

We were also very lucky to have our talented friend and photographer Ajay Kumar photograph our evening doo. The pictures are stunning. We love the candid shots of our guests partying! He perfectly captured little moments that we missed during the evening. We love looking back at the photos of everyone having a proper good knees up.

Both photographer’s pictures perfectly document the emotion and essence of our day.

The Styling & Decor

For our decor we decided to go for the more is more approach. With the help of expertise of Kathryn at Streamadelica we transformed our venue into a multicoloured disco fantasy, with her hired streamer banners and a bespoke streamer backdrop. We loved the way they looked against the industrial backdrop of the venue.

To add to the fantasy we also bought a ‘Til death do us Party’ neon sign from Sparkled_uk.

The colour scheme was inspired by my mums 80’s wedding. Her bridesmaids all wore peach. So we decided to bring this into our wedding. We settled on peach and cornflower as our main colours, with hints of gold and teal and sparkle thrown in for good measure.

The colour scheme was also perfectly captured in the flowers, which were put together by the fantastic Ami at Ivy florist. The bouquets and arrangements were a mixture of dried and fresh flowers, this was important to us as it means we have been able to keep part of my bouquet on display as a special moment from the day.

For the finer details, we had the help of EmilyKWeddings who supplied lots of gorgeous additions such as candlesticks, runners, photo grids and frames.

All of the stationery e.g. name cards, menus, seating plans, signs we did ourselves. It was hard work but very rewarding and great for cost-saving!

For our decor, we also wanted to include personal touches. We decided to display polaroid photographs of family weddings to ensure all family past and present were included. Guests could then also take their own Polaroids throughout the evening. Which has provided us with a gorgeous collection of photos to look back on.

The Honeymoon

We both absolutely love holidaying in Italy, so for our honeymoon we chose a week in Taormina, Sicily. It was the perfect combination of beach, culture, food and relaxation. We stayed in Iancu Charme Apartments, 10/10 would recommend.

Memorable Moments

The first glance we had with each other in the church was magic.

Our wedding cake was extra special as it was made by our best friend Natalie. We were lucky to have a beautiful cake, even more beautiful because it was made by such a fantastic friend.

The speeches! The speeches were a good balance of humour, sentiment and feelings. It was unplanned but, each speech fed on perfectly from the other, focusing on different elements of our friends and family. Andrew, my dad and Callum, (Andrew’s best man) all delivered their speeches with a feeling that everyone was behind them. And Callum’s big joke (a fake proposal) was the ultimate finale!

Wedding after party. Our wedding party were all staying overnight in the venue’s accommodation. Once the wedding evening doo was over we all went and had an after party. Lots of extra drinks and cake were consumed!

Advice For Other Couples

Don’t feel pressured to follow all (or any!) of the classic traditions. Just pick the ones that you love and drop the ones you don’t! This is your special day and should reflect you. Make it your own. You do you!
