No, photographers on wedissimo do not charge travel expenses.
Try putting all your wedding activities into a carbon calculator and you’ll probably find that it produces about 14.5 tons of carbon dioxide. Will and Kate’s wedding was reported to have emitted 6,765 tonnes.
The UK produces 331.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide a year. There are 67 million people in the UK so on average average each person produces 4.9 million tons of CO2 a year. That means one wedding produces about the same amount of CO2 in one day as 3 people do in a year.
We don’t restrict it, we just don’t provide a facility to charge travel expenses. Photographers set their price (we verify that this is not higher than what they charge elsewhere), and how far they will travel for that price, without charging extra travel expenses. Most of our photographers will travel between 50 and 80 miles for their full day package, or a bit less for their shorter packages. When you enter your venue address in the search bar, we only show photographers who will travel to your venue without charging extra travel expenses.
Yes we do. Most other sites don’t show exactly where photographers will work. They often give a broad area, like South East or Scotland. Couples can get quite far through the sales process before realising that their photographer charges travel expenses, but they feel committed. We think prices should be transparent from the beginning, so you can narrow your search early based on your budget. There are great photographers in every area of the country. You just just have to find them, which is super easy with a quick search. Just enter you wedding venue and wedding date.
Yes, somewhat. We don’t guarantee that your photographer is local, as some photographers are willing to travel larger distances than others, but by not allowing travel expenses, we do skew your search results towards local photographers. Overall, this will have a positive impact on the environment, as more people end up buying local.
Great question, I’m glad you asked. For us it’s about striking a balance. We have built sustainability into our business model, but some travel is inevitable for weddings. We would rather give couples a great experience by giving them options which are skewed towards local photographers, than try to tell photographers what they can and can’t do.
Most photographers don’t charge travel expenses within a certain radius, which could be anywhere from 20 to 100 miles. Typically after that it’ll cost 45-60p per mile, each way. Destination weddings are different of course. If you’d like your wedding photographer to travel abroad with you, then you’ll need to pay for travel and accommodation. But before you do that, consider whether there is one locally you like.
