Welcome to WWW followers Courtney and Dom’s awesome West Midlands barn wedding. They were married in the summer in the woodland at The Cowshed, Woodhall Farm followed by a party-vibe reception in the barns.
There really isn’t much not to love about their day. From the dried wedding flowers to the smoke flares, gorgeous outfits, sundrenched portraits, DIY decor and neon sign, it was all SO good!
Thanks so much to Photos By Hash for sending over these incredible shots of a seriously magical and memorable wedding. Enjoy it all.
My grandads are both from Ireland and I used to go all the time as a child but me and Dom had never been together. For my birthday he booked us a trip away to Ireland to visit both the areas my grandads are from.
Dom planned us a day trip to the cliffs of Moher, and standing on the cliffs he got down on knee and asked me to marry him. He always likes to remind me that I never actually said yes just started crying tears of joy and put the ring on.
We wanted a very easy-going natural, boho-style wedding and most importantly we wanted a party.
We got married during covid and ended up marrying on our third wedding date so we knew we just wanted everyone to have fun.
We never really set a budget, but we knew we didn’t want to spend loads. We made a lot of decor ourselves and was thrifty.
We got engaged in July and within 2 weeks we had booked our venue, the Cowshed at Woodhall Farm. After searching online for venues we booked viewings for 2, the Cowshed being our first viewing.
As soon as we got there we knew it was the one, it was perfect, and Lucy the owner was so kind and helpful.
It’s a beautiful DIY venue, which was perfect for us because we wanted to make sure we could put our spin on it. And it had the option for a legal outdoor ceremony on ‘grannies island’۔
I tried on 27 dresses, I was very open with trying on any style but ended up with a beautiful white dress from Wed2B. Everyone kept saying I’d know when I found the dress and I genuinely thought they were all exaggerating because I hadn’t felt that at all.
But I put on my dress and I automatically pictured myself walking down the aisle to Dom.
I’m a jeweller so we made our wedding rings together as a couple.
I had a beautiful dried flower crown and bouquet. We had matching hair slides for our bridesmaids and buttonholes for our immediate family.
Dom got his suit from Slaters; he walked in and a man came over to ask what style Dom was looking for and started showing him suits. He literally chose the first suit the man showed him, not like me at all (but his was perfect). Dom’s suit was a three-piece and tweed.
Our ceremony was outside on ‘grannies island’ nestled in between trees with a stream running around.
The songs we chose throughout the ceremony and for our first dance were all songs that meant something special to us.
We chose to have a DJ because that way we were able to put a playlist together.
Our photographer was Hash Hart, we saw his work on Instagram and thought it was perfect for our aesthetic.
We had a chat with Hash and got on great and knew we wanted to book him for our day, he has a documentary style. It was like having a friend at your wedding that was awesome at taking photos.
We had a real boho vibe, with dried flowers, driftwood, vintage pieces (car boot finds) and a natural aesthetic.
Our cake was a non-traditional lemon and poppyseed naked cake with fruit and flowers as decor.
Our wedding was majority DIY, but the things we bought were generally from small businesses or car boot finds.
We had a sign for behind us at the reception which was a neon ‘XO’ which is a matching tattoo we both have.
We bought dried lavender and dried our own baby’s breath for decoration. We made our bridesmaid bouquets from these too.
Although their van did unfortunately breakdown on the way so we never got to have them at our wedding we want to give a shout-out to Traditional Fairground – they were so great during the booking process and were absolutely lovely. And it was not their fault at all that they couldn’t attend.
We had absolutely beautiful Italian food served family-style from a small family-run business called Squisito – Sarah the owner was so great to work with.
We were originally planning a trip to NY, but covid had other plans.
Instead, we took a beautiful trip to Scotland and are still hoping to go to NY at some point in the future.
There were so many memorable moments at our wedding, from the wedding car breaking to our vintage games car breaking down on their way and me burning my wedding dress.
But it was absolutely perfect and I wouldn’t have changed a thing.
For me apart from the ceremony, the most memorable moment was everyone crowded around me and Dom dancing and singing to ‘Proud Mary – Tina Turner’ just absolutely having a party.
Oh my, what a stunning day.
Courtney and Dom, I can’t thank you enough for sharing your fantastic West Midlands barn wedding story with us.
