There are no rules or hard and fast guidelines on what you should spend on each bridesmaid gift. In fact, it may be controversial, but you may decide you don’t need to buy bridesmaids gifts at all. However, the best way to work out your bridesmaid gift budget is to sit down with your wedding budget spreadsheet and see what’s available in your budget.
It may be that you’ve footed the bill for lots of your bridesmaids’ essentials and a small token gift is sufficient, or a simple and sweet thank you card. Couples can spend anywhere from nothing, to hundreds of pounds on their bridesmaid’s gifts. But you should be able to achieve a thoughtful and gorgeous gift for in the region of £20 and up.
It really depends on who is paying for the wedding. If you are paying for the wedding then the cost of bridesmaids’ gifts falls to you, likewise, if someone else is paying, it may be under their budget. If in doubt though have a chat if someone else is paying for your wedding, to see what they think/feel about the bridesmaid gifts.
You don’t have to give gifts to bridesmaids, it’s really down to personal choice and taste. That being said, if you do give out gifts, try to be consistent and treat all your bridesmaids equally with their gifts. Unless you have a matron/maid of honour who you feel has gone above and beyond the other bridesmaid’s role in your day.
Timing when to give your bridesmaid gifts is a completely personal choice. Many couples like to gift the evening before the wedding, during the morning preparations or at the speeches to thank them in front of guests too. Take a look at your wedding timeline to see a suitable time for gift-giving.
