Moody Jewel Tone & Velvet Wedding Ideas

I am totally coveting the trend for dark, moody and atmospheric wedding ideas right now. It absolutely works for couples with edge and attitude, no matter the time of year and just screams cool. Adding a fave leather jacket to a pretty and ethereal dress, adds personality and authenticity for example. In fact, texture and different fabrics really add a different dimension to wedding styling. We’ve seen raw silk ribbons and table cloths dominating 2017 trends, so velvet is great to welcome to the table this year. I love it here today styled alongside jewel tone stationery, opulent florals and dripping candles. It all looks so romantic.

Luxe Velvet Wedding Ideas

“We had such a ball discussing the look for this years Flourish Workshop, we wanted something a little different, but following some big 2018 trends. We opted for Jewel tones, luxe velvet textures, dark moody lighting and fabulous foliage and blooms supplied by Twiggy Thistle.

For the tablescape I used mixed metals, dark purple, black and white crockery splattered with gold, a deep red velvet runner and lots of black and ivory candles. Cutlery was tied in a velvet ribbon with a tassel. The tones were picked out perfectly in Lou Papers beautiful stationery and the whole look was framed in an arch adorned with foliage by Twiggy Thistle. I added in two filament bulb lights to up the moody ambience and give the photographers a bit of a challenge!!

The cake table was dressed with similar textures and components complimenting the totally ornate cake by Melissa at Woodland Cakes.

Hellebores dotted around in blue and cut glass glass bottles, picked out the blooms in the beautiful bouquet. The bride wore a deep wine lip and smoky eye make up by Zowie from Flutterby Pro beauty. The groom wore a black bow tie and deep red pocket square to tie in with the look.

Our alfresco set up had to be rushed indoors as the heavens opened but looked right at home in front of the fire and offered our couple a chance to sit down and warm up after the outdoor shots were taken!”
