Couples do tend to book their band as one of the first major vendors after the venue. On wedissimo couples book bands an average of 234 days in advance of their wedding.
You will find the set length and the number of sets included in each package on each listing on wedissimo. You can always get in touch with the band(s) you like and ask for something custom, and most bands are willing to provide two or three sets of typically 45 minutes to 1 hour each.
Not unless you ask them to. This is very genre-specific, however, and you might want an acousting set or jazz singer serenading guests during dinner, or a 4-piece party band for once the dinner has finished.
A sound limiter is a device fitted at some wedding venues that monitors noise levels and cuts power to amplified equipment if the volume stays above a set decibel (dB) limit for more than a few seconds. Limits at West Midlands venues typically sit between 90 and 106dB, with many venues publishing their setting: Pendrell Hall and The Ashes Barns both operate limiters set at 100 decibels as a condition of their licence, Redhouse Barn sets its limiter at a band-friendly 106dB, and The Mill Barns uses an intelligent in-house sound system limited to around 96dB that bands plug into directly. As a rule of thumb, at 100dB or above almost any band can perform comfortably, and at 95dB most three to five piece bands without a brass section will be fine. Below that, experienced bands adapt with electronic drum kits and adjusted setups, so a limiter rarely spoils the party. If your venue has one, tell your band the dB setting when you enquire; you can message any band directly through wedissimo before you book.
Yes, this is almost always a given provided you give the band sufficient notice (we would recommend at least 4 to 6 weeks). You'll find that all the West Midlands bands on wedissimo publish a known repertoire, and if your preferred first dance song is not on it, the majority of bands will commit to learning this for you. If your band is not able to learn your first dance song, remember it will always be possible to play a recorded version through the PA.
This doesn't need to be an either / or question. Many couples choose both for different parts of your day. DJs are often great at keeping the party going, and a really good live band can certainly get it started.
Yes. Bands listed on wedissimo should all have PAT tested equipment and PLI insurance, and will bring their own equipment. You should work with the venue to understand any equipment the venue expects you to use (for example inbuilt PA systems) or any further requirements, but you would expect bands to have their own equipment unless they specifically state they do not.
All the wedding bands that appear when you search West Midlands are bands whose service area includes the West Midlands, with prices inclusive of travel throughout the region. Some bands may travel from further afield to get there, but they have all specified a service area which includes the West Midlands for the price.
