Long-time wedissimo best-seller and London photographer, David, says "The city is packed with incredibly beautiful and affordable registry offices linke Old Marylebone Town Hall and Chelsea Old Town Hall which make for jaw-droppingly beautiful backdrops for those on a budget who still want to have some stunning images of their day. London is bristling with photogenic backdrops which make an engagement shoot a must-have. Most photographers will offer this, either as a standalone engagement package like those below, or as an add-on to a wedding package. Expect to pay £200 - 500 (the average paid on wedissimo in 2026 is £267) for an engagement shoot in the capital which typically lasts 1 - 2 hours and for which you can expect in the region of 50 - 100 professionally edited images. Most photographers will offer this mid-week if you ask. Remember if you have a bucket list of sites that you want to be photographed in front of you will need to budget extra travel time, and be sure to check that your photographer is a Londoner and knows all the best spots.
Here’s what South-London photojournalist Tony had to say “There’s a certain allure to having a couple shoot in the capital. The city has complex tapestry of architecture, with chic industrial warehouses and modern glass skyscrapers rubbing shoulders with world famous landmarks, church spires and Dickensian cobbled alleyways. It offers some incredible nooks and crannies for breathtaking and romantic candid shots.”

Hiring a professional photographer for your London proposal isn’t just a romantic gesture. It’s a moment that you will never be able to fully re-create, and if you can capture it in real-time, you will forever be grateful. Expect to pay in the region of £250 for 1 hour and perhaps 40 images. If you are popping the question outside remember to think about lighting and time of day / night and the impact of tourists. Purely from a photographical perspective nothing beats a sunset, but the timing is key. It’s also better to have famous landmarks (Big Ben, Tower Bridge, St. Paul’s to name a few popular choices) further in the background, and vantage points from roof terraces or bridges often work best. A good London photographer should have some strong suggestions of where and when to get the best shots if you are flexible.
If you are proposing in a venue, remember to ask permission if you want to bring a photographer. You should also consider lighting. Popular proposal spots like the Shard can create stunning shots, but glass is highly reflective at night, and you will want to discuss appropriate lighting with your photographer ahead of time.

£2,000 is a really strong budget for a London photographer, and should secure an experienced professional offering 8 to 12 hours of shooting on the day and 400 to 500 professional quality images, and there may be budget to include a second-shooter or videographer as part of the package.

We continue to see demand for good photographers with Full Day packages under £1,000. You are more likely to find shorter 'full day' packages of 8 hours for this price, and it may be that at this price range you can expect fewer professional images. That said, good photographers in London at this price point get snapped up far in advance. It may be a great budget for a photographer with only one or two seasons behind them (look for those with only a few years' experience, or 25-50 weddings) who are experienced enough to offer a great service, but still charging rates more associated with less experienced photographers.

On wedissimo couples looking for Full Day photography in London book an average of 216 days in advance of their wedding, with over 16% booking more than a year in advance. The date upon which you are getting married is probably the most important factor here. Whilst there’s an increasing trend for more autumnal and weekday weddings, the peak season is still June to August, and key Saturdays in these months get booked out for most London photographers 12 - 24 months in advance. That’s particularly true if you are getting married over the August bank holiday. If this is you, then you should start planning your photographer 12-18 months out at the latest. Remember you can check real-time availability of London photographers on wedissimo.
Couples who are looking for ceremony-only or half-day packages in London often leave it much later and book an average of 95 days before their wedding. This is driven by a number of factors, as budget-conscious couples may only decide they still have budget for a photographer at the last minute, and photographers typically reserve key dates for Full Day Packages and may only make ceremony-only or half-day packages available nearer the time if they still have no bookings on a particular date. That said, a number of our best-selling photographers will book out 12 - 18 months in advance, so once you have found ‘the one’ it’s worth securing them quickly.
Couples will typically begin their search, shortlist and start contacting photographers or booking calls 3 - 6 weeks before booking. Provided your wedding is more than 60 days’ away you would typically pay a 10% deposit on wedissimo to secure your photographer, and that remains fully refundable for 30 days if you change your mind.
Each package listing on wedissimo sets out what is included, and what you can expect to receive in terms of images, the turnaround time, and the parts of the day covered. Typically you can expect to receive between 35 and 50 images per hour of photography. Most photographers will also commit to an 8 to 12 week turnaround time. That said, check the details of all packages to make sure it aligns with your own expectations.
All photographers on wedissimo detail within their package how long it will take to provide the full edited gallery. This is typically 8 to 12 weeks. Some photographers may offer a short ‘sneak preview’ for you to post on your socials the same day or the next day, and this is typically limited to a small handful of shots from the day. However, you should discuss that in advance if this is something you are after.
Yes, absolutely. On wedissimo we require all our London photographers to offer one or more packages which sets out the number of hours, images, what’s included, when you can expect to receive the images etc. Often photographers will also offer standard add-ons (e.g. extra hours, videography, second-shooters etc.) which you can purchase at the time of booking, or bolt on at a later date. Over a quarter of couples who book a London photographer on wedissimo customise their package with at least one add-on.
However if you fall in love with a photographer and they don’t quite offer what you are looking for we would highly recommend reaching out to them or booking a call, and asking them to create a custom package just for you and most will be delighted to do so. That’s particularly true if you have a multi-day or multi-venue package.
All our London photographers sync their calendars with wedissimo to ensure that they cannot accept a booking on a date they are otherwise unavailable. That said, whilst extremely rare, photographers are only human and can fall sick or some other factor beyond their control may prevent them from attending at short notice. In such circumstances wedissimo is uniquely well-positioned to offer a replacement photographer of similar standing at no additional cost, and provided we receive sufficient notice (at least 24 hours) this is something we provide by way of a guarantee. Thankfully it’s not something we have had to do that often.
Documentary (sometimes referred to as ‘candid’ or ‘reportage’) photography is a form of photography that is fully un-staged. Documentary photographers often describe themselves as fly-on-the-wall or unobtrusive, and they capture real moments that cannot be faked. Most couples think that sounds great, who doesn’t love a bit of authenticity? But it’s worth thinking about whether it is really for you. Would you find a photo of one of your flower girls picking her nose endearing or unprofessional? Do you want staged group shots of everyone looking at the camera (not Documentary) or long-lens shots of people laughing, crying, chatting with no idea the camera can see them (Documentary). And do you want photographs that look real, or something that feels polished and belongs in a fashion magazine?
If you are after the magazine look, or want images of your guests looking directly at the camera, then a more traditional editorial style may suit. Expect to pay a little more in editing if you are after a highly polished finish. Most Documentary-style photographers will offer some group shots, but if you want more of a staged finish, then traditional style will suit you best.
