Destination Wedding Photo Ideas

Ostuni, Italy
Photo by Kayleigh Pope Photography -This photograph of Natasha and Nigel was taken in the stunning Ostuni, Italy. The bride wore a beautiful Saldana Vintage dress and a trendy hat! 🙂 It was such a gorgeous day!

Blue Hour
Photo by Amy Faith Photography – Lisa and Mark were married in Santorini. The night before their wedding, we spent the whole evening dashing around one of the most picturesque parts of the island, chasing the sunset and snapping images of the two of them haloed by sunrays. By their wedding day, we felt more relaxed and swanned over to the cliffside to capture stunning Blue Hour portraits after sunset. The colours in the sky over Santorini after sunset are indescribably beautiful.

Lancer de bouquet!
Photo by Amy Faith Photography –
We had just finished Katie and Craig’s sunset shoot in the vineyards at Château Soulac and were heading back to the barn to join their guests for the evening. Craig announced that he wanted EVERYONE to enjoy the sunset, so he rallied around 100 slightly tipsy people to make their way across the château’s grounds from the barn all the way to the other side to gaze out over the Dordogne River at one of the most spectacular views I have ever seen. While we were there, we took an impromptu group shot, and Katie, who had earlier refused to throw her beautiful bouquet, came up with the brilliant idea of tossing it from the spot where I had stood for the group photo. This is the image I captured. In my opinion, ALL bouquet tosses should take place at sunset!

That St Ives light.
Photo by Brian Robinson Photography –
Rachel and Jamie chose St Ives in Cornwall as the destination for their wedding, and the weather did not disappoint. On a beautiful September day, the unique light of St Ives made this beach shot look like we were somewhere in the Mediterranean.

Beaches of the West Coast of Ireland
Photo by Andy Sidders Photography – This is my favourite shot from my first destination wedding – Cat & Ed’s wedding at Broadhaven Bay on the West coast of Ireland.
The shot came about while I was taking traditional formal group photos on the beach. As the sand around the party got churned up between different group shots, I wanted to keep the photos looking as clean as possible, so we occasionally moved to a new spot on the beach. It was during one of these moves that I realised I had a fantastic opportunity for a more creative group shot.

The Castle couple
Photo by Nabis Photographers/ Chiara Ridolfi – I was at Palagio Castle near Florence in Tuscany. The scenery was beautiful, so we went to take some photos in a small tower. As I went downstairs, I took a shot when I saw them surrounded by the clouds.

Indian wedding in Tuscany
Photo by Nabis Photographers/ Chiara Ridolfi – I was thrilled to photograph this beautiful Indian wedding at Villa Catignano, a stunning location in the heart of the Siena hills. After the Indian rituals, we took some photos inside the villa. The atmosphere was enchanting, and their love was palpable—it was truly a joy to capture their special moments.

Castle view
Photo by Damion Mower Photography – This is Sabine and Alex’s wedding in Austria at Schloss Friedberg, near Sabine’s hometown.

Bridal Preparation in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Photo by S2 Images – Nadhrah and Aaron, who both live in London, decided to celebrate in both England and Malaysia to embrace their cultural mix. This photograph was taken in the bridal suite at the Grand Hyatt in Kuala Lumpur. Imagine preparing for your big day with a floor-to-ceiling view of the Petronas Twin Towers!

The streets of Sorrento
Photo by Sarah Williams Photography – I recently returned from photographing the wonderful wedding of Charlotte and Joe in Sorrento, the very same place where I got married. The streets of Sorrento are so beautiful that we set aside some time for portraits while exploring the town. I love this photo because of the colourful walls, the word ‘Sorrento’ on one of the buildings, and the sight of a happy, relaxed couple having the best time!

The perfect kiss
Photo by Ebourne Images – It seems there are a million ways to tie the knot. I’ve photographed newlyweds in a two-seater aeroplane at 2,000 feet and had the privilege of shooting a blessing at Stonehenge. I’ve captured special moments at St Paul’s Cathedral and some of the grandest venues across Europe. But often, you just can’t beat a beach wedding—or that kiss on the beach.

Palm Trees
Photo by The Gibsons – Let’s return to Mexico, where this beautiful and serene beach wedding took place. Just steps away from where they exchanged their vows were some lovely palm trees and greenery, creating a sense of privacy away from the tourists and making them feel as though they were alone in a very busy place.

Sunset in Pizzo Calabro
Photo by Roberto Schiumerini – A beautiful evening with these newlyweds. To capture this photograph, we waited for a stunning sunset in Calabria, Italy.

Hot, hot wedding …
Photo by Christian Allen Photography – This wedding in Greece was held on Cameo Island, Zante, a popular destination for overseas weddings. This image is always a favourite of mine; I love seeing the expressions on everyone’s faces, especially the groom’s, with all eyes focused on the bride’s arrival. One of the biggest challenges for a destination photographer, particularly in very sunny conditions, is the high contrast. However, my main issue on that Greek August day was the extreme heat, which made the sunscreen on my face run into my eyes and sting terribly—what a hot wedding indeed! 😂

Grandads approval
This wedding took place at Villa Carlotta on the shores of Lake Como in Italy in August of this year. Unfortunately, the groom’s grandad was unable to attend due to illness, and it was later discovered that he passed away during the wedding.
Upon reviewing the images, it seemed as though he had actually made it to the wedding. During the first kiss, a man appeared in the clouds giving a huge thumbs up. We couldn’t believe it when we reviewed the images on the camera, but it seems grandad did make it to the wedding after all.

Destination Love
Photo by Matthew Grainger Photography – Ryan and Charlotte’s beautiful wedding in La Viñuela, Spain, was a perfect day in one of the most stunning venues I have ever visited. The hotel, overlooking the lake with mountain views all around, provided an ideal setting for the outdoor ceremony in the sun.

Alone into the tropical island
Photo by SV PHOTOGRAPH – This photo was taken during a destination wedding with a couple from the US visiting French Polynesia. We drove them into the bush, to the wilder part of the island.

Pre-wedding party in Puglia, Italy
Photo by Spotyphoto – What do you do when your pre-wedding party is in Puglia and conveniently located on the beach? You take a dip in the sea, of course! As you can see, everyone agreed and joined the bride!
I love this image because these guests truly know how to party and were up for some unconventional wedding photos.

First Sunset.
Photo by Jason Williams Photography –
I had already photographed this couple’s wedding in Camden, London. When they told me they were having another Catholic ceremony in a tiny village in northern Italy near the Swiss Alps, I eagerly jumped at the chance. I advised the bride to get a cathedral veil, which you see in the image.
While everyone was in the midst of the party, I noticed a beautiful sunset about to fade. I persuaded the bride to put her veil back on and join her husband for a moment. Although it’s an unorthodox image since you can’t see their faces, it captures a more private moment and remains one of my favourite images from my work.

The dress that became a spectacle
Photo by Sam & Louise –
Many brides want stunning, show-stopping photographs of their wedding dress, but understandably, many are a bit hesitant about doing anything too unconventional. So when I suggested suspending Jen’s dress from the washing lines above the cobbled streets of Lake Orta, I never imagined she would agree. But she did!
We carefully secured the dress to the hanger and slowly moved it away from the balcony until it was in the perfect spot. Naturally, it’s not every day you see a wedding dress suspended above the streets, so it became quite an attraction. Groups gathered, and many people took their own photographs. It’s still my favourite dress photo three years on.

Lake Orta, Italy
Photo by Sam & Louise – We’re definitely home birds and prefer to stay within the UK for weddings. However, when our good friends and incredibly talented wedding filmmakers, Unique Visuals, got married and asked us to photograph their day, we jumped at the chance. Their wedding was perfect and set in the most stunning location. This photo was taken just after sunset on the jetty, with the mountains in the background and the stars twinkling above.

Portugal kiss
Photo by Karolina Kotkiewicz Photography – Scottish couple getting married in Portugal. Our sunset photo.

Annie and Andy in Sri Lanka
Photo by Andy Mac Photography & Filming – I just love it when a wedding comes together perfectly—with an amazing couple, a lovely family, brilliant friends, an epic location, and incredibly hot weather. I aimed to capture something truly unique and special that would make people stop, look, and think, “Wow, I want to be that couple right there, right now.”

Old Mill Eco farm in Poland wedding
Photo by Younger Photography – Bride and Groom (Agata and Adam) with their dog Dida in Poland. Although they live in the UK, they chose to get married in Poland, followed by a DIY reception at the beautiful, peaceful Old Mill Eco Farm in southwest Poland.

Caldera Ceremony
Photo by Mark Wallis Photography – Suzanne and Steve held their Mamma Mia-themed wedding ceremony at a winery on a clifftop, overlooking the famous caldera of the Greek island of Santorini.
